[Solved] Converting Genesis 8 Clothing to V4?

Why would someone want to convert clothing made for the latest and greatest technology down to that old fuddy-dud V4?  I have a few V4 characters that I've tried to convert to Genesis Female using GenX2, but the faces never came out quite right.  I'd like to continue using these characters, but V4 content creators are getting hard to come by.

I've tried using EvilInnocence's cross dresser to take clothing made for G1 down to V4, and it works pretty darn well.  I can't remember if I've ever used it on Genesis 2 or 3 because I don't need to convert content very often.  Cross Dresser doesn't seem to be able to handle Genesis 8 though.  So unless there is another tool that can do this for me, I assume that I will need to do it manually?

So in the spirit of learning some new skills, my goal is to convert a jacket made for G8 to V4.  To start with, is there somone willing to give me a very high-level summary on how they would approach this?  After that, I will probably have some more specific questions about the tools necessary to do it.

I don't have the product, so I'm not sure if it would work, but perhaps this product could help: https://www.daz3d.com/genesis-3-female-clone-for-genesis

Oh, and there's also this awesome tutorial on creating clones for different generations: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/193296/freebie-how-to-create-a-v4-clone-and-transfer-other-figures-for-g8f-now-with-video/p1

I used that to create quite a few clones including a G8F and G8M clone for Genesis 1. Here's the Lethal Rogue G8F outfit on Genesis 1's Victoria 5:

If you can get the clothing onto G1 you should be able to save it as a Wearable Preset for G1 then transfer it to V4?

Cross dresser doesn’t support any version of Genesis beside G1, so you need to convert your G8 item back to G1 first.

Thank you DivaMakeup.  I think that makes sense, but just to confirm my understanding.  I need to create a G8F clone for G1 so that I can auto-fit the G8F clothing onto G1, correct?

Ha!  It's not something I would need to do often.  This is more for the sake of learning about the tools.

Step 1: Autofit from GF8 to G1 complete

If you can get the clothing onto G1 you should be able to save it as a Wearable Preset for G1 then transfer it to V4?

@Divamakeup or anyone, would you be willing to explain this step in a little bit more detail.  What exactly is a "wearable preset" saving?

Step 2: Create a CR2 for Cross Dresser

    - After autofitting to G1, I deleted G1 from the scene and went to File->Save As->Supported Assets->Figure Prop Assets.

    - I then cleared the scene and reloaded the newly created asset.

    - Finally, File->Export as a .cr2.

I then ran it through Cross Dresser (results attached).  The zipper is a little messed up at the chest.  I will try some of Cross Dresser's fix morphs to see if I get any better results.

General question?  Is there a way to transfer V4's morphs to the jacket at this stage?

Right click on the jacket and select transfer active morphs!

You could do it that way I think, or use SY G3F clone for Genesis. It's super easy to get G8F clothing onto G3F. Sickleyield also has a tutorial on how to convert G3F and G8F clothing between the two figures:

That's an added step though - leapfrogging the clothing between figures, saving it as a "Wearable Preset" each time before transferring it to another figure.

If you can figure out how to make the G8F clone for G1, that's probably the easier method.

Though I don't have the crossdress for G1, so I'm not sure how that part works.

Once the clothing is on the figure you transfered it to, select the figure and go to File >> Save As >> Wearable Preset. You can save hair and jewelry sets that way as well, or entire mix and match or kit-bashed outfits. I have a ton of kit-bashed outfits that I have saved as wearable presets. :)

Ohhh That looks like it works pretty well! :) I'm glad you got it figured out!

I'm not sure about transfering V4 morphs.
