  • Three options at first sight.

    1.  Create a bump map for the surface details.  This would keep geometry simple, but you would need create the bump map in an external image editor or texture paint it either in Blender itself or another application like 3D Coat or Substance Painter.  The egg will have to be UV mapped if it isn't already.

    2.  Sculpt the surface details.  Requires more geometry but can be done in Blender.  I think it would take patience to get it looking smooth.

    3.  Sculpt the surface details then bake them to a normal map.  Keeps the geometry simple, same demands for patience with the sculpting.

Hello, I new to blender, but try the boolean modifier. You just have to morph a sphere in the shape you want, to use as a cutter.

Not 100% certain of the easiest & most accurate way but:

Make one big egg than then duplicate it & then shrink it to the size of the 1st engraving line. Make a third duplicate egg and shirink it to the size of the innermost egg. Now duplicate the 2 duplicate eggs. Carefully position the smaller duplicate eggs so that most of their volume is hidden by the bigger egg & do that for both sides of the bigger egg.

    Is that close enough?

If not, model the bigger egg  and then one done change to a flat projection so that you can draw two 'sculpting brushes' one for the outer egg engravement and one for the inner egg engravement and use those brushes to sculpt your egg.

  • - you can draw out the basic shape with the grease pencil, then convert it to a mesh. build it up from there and once you have the basic shape, add a bump map onto the face to get that final star design.

Step 1-Add the image as a background image, (opening the right panel, setting background image, then press 1 and 5 to show the image in front view)  See image1

step 2, enable bsurfaces in File > User Preferences > Addons > search for bsurfaces and click Save User surfaces.

Step 3 make sure the default cube or some other object is in your scene. (you can delete this later) but the grease pencil needs something to attach itself to

Step 4 enable grease pencil in the same panel as the background images. Make sure Object is selected, not scene, and click New, to create a new layer. See Image 2

Step 5- Go into the Grease Pencil tab in the right hand options panel, and make sure object is selected. See image 3.

Step 6 - Holding D- draw circles around your inner oval. See image 3.

Step 7- Make sure you are in Edit mode (with the default cube selected, press tab)

Step 8- In the left hand option block, go to the tools tab. Under bsurfaces, make sure cyclic follow is checked (As well as Automatic join. Mine is unchecked by mistake) and click Add Surfaces. See Image 4. If nothing happens, and the grease pencil marks disappear, then try again. it sometimes helps if you dont complete the oval entirely. It's a little finicky.

Step 9- Under bsurfaces add surfaces, adjust the cross amount.

That should give you a basic start. From there, go into Edit mode and straighten the verts. Then, selecting the outer verts, use extrude (e) and edge loops Ctrl+ R,  Loop select (Alt+Right click and Shift +Alt + Right Click) to build up the rest of the egg.

Not going to write out full detail explaination on how I did it, but it should give you an idea.  Going to assume you already have knowledge on Blender.

    1) Create an egg model.

    2) Use multries modifer.

    3) Bump up subdivde to 3 or 4

    4) Scuplt in details.

Should get the similar results.  Took around 10-15 minutes.
