Making paint shaders idea

I am thinking of getting a bunch of wooden balls to paint and photograph in order to make paint shaders.  I found a pack of 50 balls on amazon.  50 one inch wooden balls that I ordered. I am wondering if this is a good idea.  Would anyone be interested, if free or at a good price, a bunch of shaders or seamless image tiles based on 50 painted balls.  I know it will be a lot of balls.

I am afraid it is too late to cancel the order anyway.  Amazon does seem to move fast on their orders.

It’s an interesting idea, but it’s easier to work with flat surfaces when going from real world sources to digital. Round surfaces have lighting and shadows to deal with. Painting a lot of flat wood pieces would work, if you scanned or photographed them afterwards.  (If you have a good photo lighting setup round things can also work, probably) Are you planning to paint designs, or plain colors?

I ended up canceling the order because I found cubes instead which were cheaper and flat.

Not a bad idea MBW, but the only reason I can see in using balls/cubes is if you're going to scan each face to UV map them so each face has a unique texture, unlike wrapping one texture around the whole thing. Cheers.

Setting up the ideal environement and lighting to photgraph things to use as textures/shaders/materials  is an art in itself.
