GPU Upgrade question
Hello good people!
I was reading these forums for a while, but decided to write a post today finally because I need some help in hardware department.
Hardware isn't something I'm good at. I am currently running 1070 Ti and using iray renderer. I have an option to use another 1070 Ti for little money from a friend that is selling his as he is upgrading to new GPU - however I cannot make up my mind how much performance I would be getting, as opposed to just saving money now and buying a 1080 Ti later on. His GPU is literaly same as mine, both are 8 GB and I can have it for 250$.
How much performance increase I can hope to get for rendering in iray out of the second 1070 Ti? Since the CUDA numbers are doubled, does that mean the rendering gets halved? I would really prefer having more power now for less money then having to save additional time for somewhat more... so how would two 1070 Ti fare against 1080 Ti?
Lastly, if I get another 1070 Ti, is 850 watt gold rated power supply unit enough?
Thanks!

The render times will be close to half with any scenes that fit into the one card you have now. There is some overhead but even if you were to cut an hour render down to say 40 minutes or from 10 to 6 minutes over the live of those cards I think you would be very happy.
Buying a 1080TI is almost impossible even used they are both hard to find and expensive. Use the 2nd card for now and save ur pennies for a new rig in the future with the new 20series.
PSU should be good unless it is running under heavy use right now.
No matter what that $250 for that card is the BEST way to get the most for your $250 for sure.
I'm inclined to say that $250 might be a little high (or quite a lot high) for a second hand card - but depends on how long left on the warranty - presuming that the warranty transfers to you.
Thank you so much for the comment. That's basically what I was hoping for - if it's even 40% faster, I'll take it for 250.
Thank you!
Lots of 1080ti at eBay at varying prices, saw some for about $100 which sounds insane, but they're probably mining cards. I checked out one who had one $100 card for sale, he appeared to have several of the same card, just each on a separate page. Usually you use the same page if you have many of the same item, so they're probably trying to hide they have many.
Just checked again, the $100 cards seem to be gone, not surprised, but I'm not sure I'd go for one of these.
I run a 1080 ti and a 1070 ti on a 850 watt psu with an intel i7 8700 8th gen CPU. The PSU should be fine for 2x1070 ti
Thank you for your comments! I've bought a second one and first test seem to be 40-45% faster speeds, so very satisfied! Working stable on 850 w too.
Thanks
