Installing files on an external hard drive

Does anyone know how to install your files on an eternal hard drive?  Do I need to also put the Daz software and installer on that external.  I have repeatedly tried and my images don't show up and it says some  of my files are missiing.  I have a lot of files and it  overloads my hard drive if I try to keep it on my computer.  Can anyone help me?

    I do this. I have all my third party asset files on an external. Files are organized with regular file path, eg: content->data/runtime/people/props -> appropriate sub folders for each of those etc.

    I do not ha e the software or installer n the external and I store my renders on my desktop, not the external, but see no reason why you could not change settings to save renders to external drive by default if desired.

    As long as the external drive is on and plugged in, it will be no different then on internal drives except it may be slower depending on the interface you use for the external drive.
