Like L'Adair said, Start looking for a new computer. I used to render iray on a gtx 770. You can certainly have some fun with iray and an older card, its just going to be so slow that it will not be very useful in learning the ins and outs of iray. Also, be very mindful of the memory. My 770 used to be all over the place with memory use. Invest in a couple good recource saving products. I use these all the time.

LOL, You're misquoting me here! I said start saving for a new computer.

I limped along using Iray for over a year with a computer that had only the onboard Intel video and 16GB of RAM. It was not uncommon for me to let an image render for a full week, sometimes longer. Problem was, it tied up my computer, making it useless for anything else while rendering. I finally bought a built-to-order computer for about $3100 in Oct'16 and put it on my credit card. I'm honestly not sure how long it took to pay off, as I broke my wrist the following February and put the $1500 surgery costs not covered by insurance on the same CC! Otherwise, I would have had it paid off in about a year.

I tried to save for it, but my money kept disappearing into Daz content!

That's okay. I'm pretty sure when she (he?) buys a new computer, she's going to wish she'd bought one sooner. I know I did.

    She smiley

I wish I could get a new computer, but right now we're living on my husband's disability.  The only reason I'm able to buy anything is birthday and Christmas presents, which I try to stretch as far as possible and use on only what I want the very most.  So it'll be quite some time before we could afford an upgrade.

But that's ok, 3DL works fine for me, and judging by the quality of the Iray render tests I've been getting, it's going to have to stay that way for awhile.  At least for indoor renders, I think I can squeak some simple outdoor renders by Iray.

Everyone has been so kind, thank you all! heart
