New Windows 10/ new DazStudio installation
Hi,
want to install a fresh Windows 10 on a new hard drive plus a new install of DazStudio on this HDD.
All of my Daz3d content is/ was installed via DIM with the "Delete downloaded files after installation option" checked.
I do not have installed all the content I've bought and I want to have exactly the same stuff installed on the new HDD,
without copying my content folder.
Read somewhere that DIM checks the manifest files to see what's installed, so I have to save this folder ?
Is there any other way to save an 'image' of my installed content, preferably in my Daz account ?
What kind of data is saved in the mysterious Userdata.dsx when I backup user data and should I save this from my old installation ?

The Manifests folder has the list of items installed on the old machine, so yes if you copy that across, set your patsh up in DIM, select all the isntalled files, and right-click there will be an option to reinstall using the current path.
The userdata has your own category data - for saved files and for your own categorisations. It can be reloaded from the Content DB Maintenance dialogue, which is launched from the Content Library pane's option menu (the lined button in the top corner, or right-click the tab).
Thank you very much Richard !
Imo it would be really useful to have something like "write database file from existing content path" (just the stuff checked in DIM)
and save it to the account.
With "restore content folder from file" it would be a dream to rebuild an old content folder on a new HDD
(if you don't want to copy it like in my case)
I'm in the process of reinstalling atm, I've set up my directories, copied my Manifest files and saw my previous installed files as "installed" now in DIM.
There's an option to "Reinstall files -> All selected" but it is grayed, what am I doing wrong ?
Do you have more than one package selected (checked)?
Tried it with all and just one checked, neither works, just to make sure, the packages are not stored on my computer, copied the manifest files as described above...
Ah, it may not work if the package needs to be redownloaded, or if you are working offline you would certainly need to be online to retrieve the package.
Thank you Richard, I'm working online
(I've guessed somehow that I have to be online to retrieve the packages anew
)
Checking the packages manually now (and discover a lot of items I've never seen before, plus trizillions of useless textures from the biweekly freebies
)
Thanks for your efforts anyway.
However, is there a wish list for the next DIM version ?
Feature requests can be made via a Technical Support ticket https://www.daz3d.com/help/help-contact-us , though it's probably a good idea to discuss them in the forums first so you can get input from others to improve them.
Thank you.
But maybe most people have all their content installed and there's no need for this ?
I'm not sure what you mean - the database does store relative paths anyway so the actual location of the content directories doesn't matter. Are you thinking of a tool to update the manifest files created by DIM? I can see daz being wary of that idea, it would be very easy for people to use it and create problems.
But the database does not store what is installed and what's not ?
No manifest update, just like a image of the installed content.
If reinstalling like described in the first sentence would have worked, I would have been happy with that.
Yes, the database stores what is installed.
