In my cathegories some references are displayed twice

Hey there!

I use content library -> cathegories to keep my items organised.

Strangely some references, such as the Wilmap's bodysuit for G2M are displayed twice. See attached screenshot.

One reference is labeled "wardrobe", the other has no label. Both reference point to the same file, and both work. If I delete either of the two references, both disappear. If I make a new reference of that product, it automatically makes two.

This is the case with a few products (thankfully not that many). I don't see any logic in what products are affected.

This is irritating, since it's cluttering up my cathegories, and the whole point of the cathegories is to keep things organised...

Does anybody know how to solve this?

This can happen if the CMS database thinks that the file is in two different products. One is a valid product and the other is in LOCAL_USER for whatever reason (at least that's what usually happens to me). What I have done is uninstall the product then check if it is still listed in the Products section. If it is still there, delete it, since it shouldn't be present anymore (those files will likely be the ones with no metadata). Search for any remaining instances and delete those. Re-install the product and see if you still get two references when categorizing.

Sometimes the files are, in fact, used by more than one product, but sometimes I get one entry, other times more than one (might be timestamp related). I haven't found a way to fix it, but there aren't that many products like that, as you say. One trick that might work is to uninstall all products that share files, and re-install the one that has them all in common, categorize it, then install the others that share those files. If you copy that first reference, you should only get one entry when you paste it into the other category (not 100% sure about that, I just left those alone, myself).

  • Are you sure they are idenitcal? If you select and look in the Info tab (at the bottom of the screenshot) do they have the same location, GUID, and extension? I ask about extensions and pathsas, being a Genesis 2 product, there may be Poser Companion Files installed as well as the native DS files.

@North: Thanks for the info. I wish there were an easier way, but I might give your method a try when I find some time.

@Richard: I see now that there's a slight difference in the info tab (see attached screenshots) but I don't know how to interpret that information.

  • That does seem to be a metadata issue - it's listed in two products, the real one and the LocalUser one.
