How many decades need to pass before we introduce an autosave feature?

As long as it's optional because i have no need for it.
Same here, optional and not the default.
Agreed, optional, not the default.
I would set it up like I do my games, Ofcourse optional, but where it has 5 save slots that over write every 15 minutes. It overwrites the oldest file so you can back track to a certain point of you wanted. But it dont have to always be on. It would be as simple as going into prefrences and unticking autosave and/or adjusting how often it autosaves. The autosave in games is there for the same reason it should be here. Some of us get so immersed in what we are doing that we forget to save! And Daz isnt always the most stable program... Its well past due. I'm blown away that we get Dforce before we get an autosave feature! Like... Really? ... I cant count how many times dforce as crashed my scenes. Ive all but stopped using it.
There is 3rd party software out there that can do it, including keeping a copy of each version of the file.
I have learned over the years in all software I use to save files before doing things that might impact my project. In DS I always save before starting a sim or dymanic drape. In all honesty, I have only had issues with dforce a few times, most of the time it works fine for me.
Please do bear in mind that AutoSave features are not universal, and that the time taken to do a save in DS - given all the asset referencs and connections - can be substantial. It seems quite likely to me that the lack of the feature is not some kind of oversight or failure to do the obvious but a deliberate decision to avoid something that needs to lock the application (to make sure the data doesn't change mid-save) for noticeable stretches, and which by taking resources away from the execution of the main application may introduce it's own stability issues. By all means lobby for a feature, but your words are more likely to be received if you assume that the developers (and marketing) have reasons for their decisions to date.
It's right here.
There is no way I would want an autosave feature. I often do a lot of experimenting with programs I use (especially at work where I write code)
Only when I find something that works, then I save with a new name. I've been in the middle of making changes to rather complicated stuff when something happens, like the boss changes his mind, or wants something done a different way, or even what I am trying to do just simply does not work. No worry, I'll just close it out without saving and start again... woops, autosave was on and now I have to figure out how to undo all that stuff before I can start.
I'd be happy with a 'do you want to save this project?' prompt every 15 minutes or so. Optional of course, but just having a reminder to save could be helpful during those times you are 'in the zone' and don't think to save right then...
Yeah, we ALL should be in the habit of saving, but people sometimes forget. It really sucks when you've bene doing an hour of work or more on tweaks, didn't think to save, and then having the program crash...
.
That's what version control software is for.
