Looking for general performance tips/help
in The Commons
Been using the program on a new computer, and have generally been disappointed with the performance of the program, despite some serious upgrades, so I was hoping to get some tips on general performance tweaks.
I went from a laptop with a 970m level of hardware, to one with a supposedly desktop quality 1060, latest intel chip, and even installed the program on the SSD, to see if it helps. So far, everything is still bogging down rather quickly after setting a scene with relatively few actors and environments loaded in. Things like weight maps, and just orbiting the camera are just barely chugging along, as if I was still using the old hardware.
Anyone have some good pointers for improving general performance? Not even rendering, but just using the program?
Also, sorry for the brick of text... Apparently posting from a phone completely negates paragraph breaks...

I just decided to check whether or not there was an nvidia profile setup in the nvidia control panel, and there wasn't. Doing this and changing some of the settings from the default global ones made the program infinitely faster! Almost absolutely no slowdown, whatsoever, now!
Also, I have loads of cooling for this puppy! My last 2 "performance" laptops were gigantic blocks that weighed about 10lbs each. This one is one of the skinniest laptops I've ever had, so I immediately got extra cooling help. Gaming is way more taxing than even rendering on it. It gets much hotter. And apparently, this new processor is supposed to have like, a million cores, too, so I was really suspicious about how the program was running... I bet it will run on my older laptop much better, too, once I do the same to that one! :D
If anyone is having performance issues, just look and see how you are set up in the Nvidia control panel, first and foremost! It was a huge help!
