Can I transfer Victoria 4 morphs to Victoria 8?

frown Since V8 technically requires you have Genesis 8 installed, its kind of confusing to me. Will V4 morphs work at all with V8?

Not directly. GenX 2 with a number of addons will allow you to port morphs as far as from V4 to V7. From V7 to V8 you need to use the transfer tool. I gather there are some tutorials out there which explain it.

This is I am talking about when I say Daz can be madly confusing for newer users when they release new generations every couple of years. They need some kind of product hierarchy guide that is easily accessible, like you cannot possibly miss it accessible.

Victoria 4 models are actually 4 generations old. Its a little wacky, but Victoria 4 is considered to be generation 4. When Generation 5 came along, somebody got the brilliant idea to call their new creation "Genesis". So Genesis 1 and Victoria 5 are the same generation. Then Genesis 2 follows with Victoria 6, followed by Genesis 3 and Victoria 7. However for the latest generation 8, they brought the names in line with each other, so now you have Genesis 8 and Victoria 8. So there is no Genesis 4-7. Each different generation makes enough changes as to not be able to use each other's morphs out of the box. There are ways around this, as GenX2 can transfer shapes from V4 through Genesis 3 with the proper addons. There is no addon for Genesis 8, but Genesis 3 shapes can be manually transfered to Genesis 8.

There used to be a “compatibility matrix” page which was quite useful for this. Unfortunately I don’t think they kept updating it.

Here is the link to the compatility matrix page:

  • I'd be super happy if they'd stop calling any character Victoria any more. Vicky isn't really Vicky any more. I messed around with Poser in the Vicky 3 days and you really had to have Vicky and Mike to do anything. Now the base G characters are fine for many/most/all uses and the skins/textures/call them what you want built on them are just fine. But Daz keeps pumping out a new Vicky and Mike with every new generation and less and less support comes out for them but if somebody comes along after a hiatus or migrates from Poser they might spend a lot of money on them before finding out they don't need to.

I only see Genesis 2 content on that matrix page. They need to update that and then place a link to that matrix on every single model in the same location they currently list software compatibility.

The GenX2 addons? Hmm...I think out the box you can go from V4 to G2F. And I also think that V8 comes with a G2F clone. If that's the case, then you would transfer V4 morphs to G2F with GenX2. Then load G2F and G8F in to studio, FAV the G2F morphs you want to transfer, then use the Tranfer Morphs tool. I think Sycleyield has a tutorial on this (just google and you should go right to the page.)

GenX and GenX 2 need additional add-ons depending on what you want t port over from what, and how far. There's an add-on to get things to G3, there's an add-on to get things to G2. These will deal with most Genesis and gen4 bases, since the various official gen4 character add-on bases were all morphs of the underlying V4 and M4 bases.

Prior to gen4 the bases wewre mostly separate meshes. There are several add-ons for the gen3 bases. One for V3 and M3, one for Stephanie3, David3 and Freak3, one for A3 and Hiro, and a final one for the kids (Luke, Laura, Matt, and Maddie)

The original version of GenX and I think the very first addons were never ported over here from Rendo, so you may need to see if they are still there. That's where the original V4 and M4 add-ons may be, if they were separate packages.

If they've gone clearance/disappearance over there, I don't know what you'd do. The developer died some time ago and I don't know who manages his estate.

G2F doesn't come with a V4 clone, you need the "Victoria 4 for G2F" product for this. And having an autofit clone included has nothing to do with whether or not GenX2 needs an add-on to transfer morphs to that figure...
