How to I import Marvelous Designer clothes into Daz and fit them?

So I wanted to play with making some leggings for G3.  I used Marvelous Designer to create and fit them using a base G3 avatar imported as .obj.  I made the leggings quad meshes and exported as .obj with welds, single object.  Next I imported the .obj to Daz, giving this:

Then I used the transfer utility with these settings:

Giving this:

So my question is, what did I do wrong?  There's definitely some important step I'm missing here...

  • Is that how they load? They should line up with the zeroed figure on import. Are you sure the avatar was the base shape and pose for Genesis, no morphs or poses applied?

It didn't line up on import, no.  It appeared behind the figure. I had to move it on Z to overlap the figure.  I'm guessing that's something to do with the avatar position in Marvelous Designer then, i.e. for some reason the obj was exported with an offset on Z.  Otherwise there are no morphs applied at all (I checked for hidden morphs too).

  • The Transfer Utility works on the mesh as imported, it ignores the translation you applied to fix the offset, so that is most likely the issue. If you reposition the clothing OBJ, hide everything else, export as OBJ, reimport that OBJ (making sure the presets in the options dialogue are the same), and use that as the target for Transfer Utility you should be good.

Yey, that worked.  Perfect fit.  I'd like to know why I had to export and then import the obj again.  I still don't quite get it...

  • If you import your avatar mesh into DS is that offset?

No.  Seems to be at zero, i.e. completely covers a G3 character at zero at least.  MD transform on the Avatar was identity, so no movement there either.

  • Maybe an odd quirk: try again with a simple outfit - just drape a rectangle over her should say - and see if that ahs the same issue.
