Vladimir 8 Textures on Genesis2 Males with Cayman Studios?

Before I spend a fortune - just to be sure - can Genesis 8 Male skin textures like Vladimir 8 be used on Genesis 2 Male if I use the Genesis 3 UVs for Genesis 2 Male(s) from Cayman Studios?

Thanks!

Yes, with a little work that can't be avoided (yet?). The material for Vladimir 8  (and all Genesis 8, it seems) is hierachical (it includes the eyelashes, an annoying incompatibility gotcha) and in the user guide for Genesis 3 UVs for Genesis 2 Male(s) it is stated that hierarchical material presets will not load (and they don't), they must first be saved as regular material presets from Genesis 3 (or 8), then it works as described. Or, load Genesis 8 and copy the surfaces individually, selecting all the matching parts in the prepared Genesis 2. It looks terrible until you apply the Genesis 3 UVs after.

That ctrl-click trick with hierarchical materials (to select which surfaces to apply to) doesn't work, by the way, I guess because the hierarchy is different.

Here is what it looks like...

Or just save it as a material prset and then load that after you load the cayman studios geograffs.

That's fantastic - and thanks for the illustration!  I'll have to find an explation of hierarchial materials.

Do you think that would work with the Tanned and Wet Skins products?  When I use the Cayman Studios product, the character textures can be transfererred to the other generation character, but the places where the geografts are won't take the tan.  I've tried applying the tan manually to those areas, but it doesn't work.

If they are done with L.I.E. then probably not, but any normal texture that follows the same UV mapping will. if you have skin builder, you can add tanlines to any texture

If you parent something to a base item, and want to apply textures to both in one shot, you would use a hierachical material setting. You can add as many parts as you want, but always use that combination for the hierarchical material settings. Very handy for multi-item outfits or assemblies, which you would save as a wearable preset or scene subset, then maybe change the materials for the various pieces and save a hierarchical material preset for each texture set for the items you want to include. Makes changing the materials on many pieces a one-double-click process. For example, some artists are now providing wearable presets for clothing and hierarchical materials for the texture sets.
