They don't bring new life to old skins, they allow you to use old skins on newer figures. I have most of them and they are easy to use, BUT to be honest, I stopped using older skins on newer characters as they just were not the best in IRAY no matter what conversion tool you use.
I did buy an IRAY conversion tool for older generations. I haven't tried it yet. So maybe I'll save the $1.99 on the Legacy UV. Thanks for the reply.
For only $1.99 it's worth trying out, LOL.
Those are totally different tools - the UVs allow you to wrap textures for the supported older figure(s) around the newer figure; the material converter takes older surface settings and replaces them with enhanced Iray settings using the same maps. They can be used together, one isn't a replacement for the other.
Hi,
I find @Cayman_Studio's UV transfer tool very helpful. I have some unusual skin materials from older figures that have benefited from using their product. An example can be seen at https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/#images/561006/. And for $1.99, it's really inexpensive to try out. Once transfered, I also use a Iray converter for the skin so that I can render in the Iray render engine. I love @V3Digitimes skin converters.

I also love the cayman studio transfer tools. I also love using the old skins with the V3Digitimes skin converters and I think they look great. Here is an old V4 character converted using Genx and one of the cayman tools back in 2016. The skin was converted to iray using V3Digitimes skin converter. I like her
I've used the legacy UVs and while they do work, I find just using Blacksmith3D's Texture Transformer a lot easier as I don't have to mess with the new geograph pieces and UV templates and what-nots to get things to work. I also think I had issues with seams lining up correctly an a rather patterned alien skin.
I personally love them, it gives me lots more options for characters and makes me feel like I didn't waste my money on older characters.
They are particularly useful for people who are doing things like graphic novels and want to be able to port their characters to later figures with better bends and expressions, and have them look like the original characters.
