Starting with DAZ Studio from a Painter's Perspective

Over the last few weeks I have been doing Rebelle painting demonstrations on my Twitch channel and I have mentioned using DAZ for creating artist's reference several times. I decided that for tomorrow's stream I would finally show how an artist could use DAZ Studio to generate drawing/painting reference. This will be geared towards 2D artists who have very ltittle 3D knowledge -- so it may be too basic for most here, but I thouht there might be a few users who would be interested in what I have to say on the topic.

Feel free to join me Sunday Oct. 27th starting at 7am EST: https://www.twitch.tv/jason_maranto

I'm testing a new service for my streams, you could still watch on Twitch (if you are on Twitch). But, if not, you can watch on my YouTube or (even better) on Crowdcast using this link.

Will definitely have to check this out.  I'm always happy to learn something new.

    Thank-you smiley

The plan is to be primarily focused on understanding the fundamentals (and perhaps a bit more) of cameras, lighting and rendering. I'll briefly touch on posing too but, since this is geared towards newer users, in this stream I plan to leave most of that as "you can do it yourself -or- just buy ready made content on daz3d.com". The area I normally specialize in (PBR materials) is far too complex a topic for the target audience of this introductory stream... though, if this one is successful, I may do more in-depth streams in the future.

Really useful information in this video re: cameras, DOF, lighting, for anyone struggling with setting these up in Studio (me included). Learned a lot that I'm sure I will find useful in setting up for promo images. Thank you very much for doing this!

I've subscribed to your You Tube channel to make sure I don't miss other gems you may provide in future.

Thank you for the video, unfortunately I didn't watch all of it, but still learned a lot.

Is the 2h30 video going to be available on YouTube? I only see the 30mn one?

Here are the links to both parts on YouTube:

    Part 1: https://youtu.be/KkfJIi70oSE

    Part 2: https://youtu.be/b8xOqI7_Z8g

They are also both available in my videos tab on Twitch if you prefer that platform: https://www.twitch.tv/jason_maranto/videos

I am thinking about doing a followup livestream. I have a few topics I could go much deeper into:

    1. Posing
    2. Lighting
    3. Render Settings
    4. Iray Uber Shader (the settings, not using Textures)

If you have have a preference as to which of the 4 you would like to see me do next let me know.

I may also do some livestreams on PBR texture creation using Substance Designer and/or Substance Painter at some point if there is any interest.

Marking this for further explration when I get home from work. The tutorial looks promising! Thanks for posting it! :)

  • Thank you for these, and I'd love to see all the topics but especially render settings.

  • This is fantastic! Thanks for posting this. My vote would be for one on the Iray Uber Shader if you do another one.

I would definitely be interested in this! I'm certain there would be things I could learn from all of the other topics mentioned as well!

OK, to start with I decided to go deeper into Iray Render Settings. I will do a Livestream Saturday Nov. 3rd from 6-8am EST. Hopefully I have the YouTube chat issue resolved, but if you want to be sure you can chat any questions use my Twitch channel instead.
