DAZ3D & Lenovo C530
in The Commons
I'm getting poor persormance with my Asus i7 laptop with Nvidia, so I am thinking of purchasing a Lenono C530 w/ Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB, i7-8700 3.20GHZ, 8 GB memory.
Has anyone used this configuration with DAZ3D? And what are your findings expecially with Iray renders?
I hate to buy a new system with poor results again.
Thanks for your time and input.

What are your system specs now? The proposed notebook isn't that great either, so I guess it depends on your types of scenes and expectations.
I would not do Iray renders on expensive laptop with internal gaming video card. These systems are designed for games not the abuse a iray render puts a graphics card thru. Laptops are great for people who just don't want desktops but if you are into rendering Iray I would suggest a external video card system connected via a pcie ribbon or thunderbolt. With this setup your internal video card is just for previews and the external with full fan at 100% will not destroy your very expenive laptop. Cooling and the lifespan of the laptop is the issue! Alternately, if you have deep pockets and don't mind burning up a laptop just get a really good extended warranty and go that route. Otherwise, I would use a laptop to save the scene and use the desktop to do the renders.
I have done plenty of renders with my laptop card, and it is still working, just make sure it has plenty of space around it so the fans can do their job.
My chief concern with your proposed laptop is the RAM. I think 8 GB is a bit low, and 16 GB would be better. For IRay you need at least twice as much RAM as VRAM
Define plenty and download MSI Afterburner and check the heat profile of your video chip inside your laptop and compare with a desktop card and then take a look at MTBF of video cards that cross heat threasholds. I know some consumers just hate desktops! Just know that there are limits on what your laptop was designed for. Laptop cooling for gaming is what the simple cooling on laptops are designed for. The fan profiles for even the desktop units are setup for gaming that is why you need something like msi afterburner to turn up your fans so your card lasts longer. Will your laptop work just the way it is? Sure, but you are shortening the life of the video portion of the card. If you replace your laptop contsantly and don't mind the expense all power to you. My suggestion was just aimed at saving money. Oh, the ram issue you mentioned is right on, you need at least double what your video card has on main system.
My i7 6 gigabyte 970m 16gig gaming laptop has been chugging along happily for going on 3 years now. Having said that, I would, if the OP is able, invest that money instead in a desktop. Not only do you get much more bang for your buck, but it's made for the kinds of things we do, while laptops are pricey and not as powerful in general for the same amount of money (and do suffer from heat more than a desktop). For instance, for the money you save getting a desktop instead you could easily upgrade to 16 gigs of ram rather than 8 and still have the other components you mentioned. If money is an issue, I'd opt for a desktop instead.
