NOTE**** I was not correct concerning the 4.0 plugin beta being available for subscription users. It is only available for users who have bought the full version. I am not sure when the plugin for 4.0 beta will be available for subs***

This was released yesterday in BETA form for users with a subscription to be able to download. I started a subscription within the last month and know some users are considering trying out Octane once the 4.0 version with denoiser was available.
I will be trying it this evening when I am home. The standalone 4.0 is available for subscription users of the DAZ plugin as well but requires exporting the scene out from the plugin and then understanding of how to open within the standalone that was not intuitive at all to me at first.

I always suggest spending some time with the standalone. It makes you appreciate the plug-ins that much more, but it also tells you a lot about how Octane should function. how the tools were originally laid out, and why. I am a major Octane fanboy lately so I would encourage everyone who can to at least try it out. its much eaiser to get on with that Iray for me anyhow, and the results as we already know are unbeatable. All the best!!
I have been using the standalone as well, once I figured out how to get the scene to appear once imported.
I am curious, what are you using for your skin materials? I have purchased genesis skin shaders for Octane from a third party and also setup some to test that were on various youtube tuts and even just what the plugin exports with.
For the scenes I have tested with, the AI light didn't seem overly better yet and also the denoised image was not always stellar but I am still experimenting with settings.
Think I got it wrong about the plugin being available for subscription users. Looks like it will not work with my subscription.
Hey Rashad, I use the standalone myself and love it! I love how simple and fast Octane is! I guess I'm an Octane fanboy as well.
How's the 4.0 Beta handling with using / converting iray shaders ?
Been curious with all the iray shader packs if they'd be useful or useless (and to an extent, the 3Delight based shader packs)
Anyone going to post any test renders / screenshots?
I didn't get to try the plugin 4.0 yet as it is only available for users who have paid full price for the plugin vs subscription. I can speak to how the current available plugin version has done with converting textures.
It does most textures well. The exceptions that I have found, however, are for mirrors, had to use a material from the live DB it has avail and also I prefer to use different hair shader that I got from RedSpec and also their shaders for eyes vs the auto conversion that the plugin does.
I will try to post some comparison renders from iRay and Octane of the same scene this weekend.
Duplicated post removed
The standalone has gotten much easier to use recently. My skin settings are kind of crazy, its hard to describe what I'm doing to acertain extent. I expect to run an official thread on it at some point. I'm also curious to see about a few changes being made to Octane that might break or otherwise cause me to have to rebuild some of the texture elements I've been using. We shall see. Sorry you werent able to get on with Version 4 just yet. It is a huge improvement in workflow in my opinion.
I totally agree. I will say that I use a pure specular material for my skin (very happy with the results), but the normal maps are very faint. Bump maps work great, and so much so, I have to tone the settings down...unlike Normal maps (I can barely see them). Displacement maps....shows green bands between UV map seperations.... I am using only the Standalone 4.00 RC6.
Very interesting. I too have issues with seams when using a purely specular material and with displacement enabled. Thought it was just me. So then now I'm beginning to wonder if SSS and displacement can work together. Seems like they should. I'll need to look into this. Thanks for the update!
I'll curious to see what the free tier is going to be like? I've read that it will include 2 cards max but most hobbiest just have one so what is the big deal? So, many Octain customers forked over close to $500 us dollars to do what Daz iray does for free. Hope they do something for the paid customers otherwise it is a huge ripoff.

I'm just gonna throw this test in here for anyone interested, I'm absolutely blown away by the denoiser by now. Downloaded V4 some hour ago so those complaints in the thread about status bar not showing I suppose are irrelevant as it showed progress well for me. Denoiser is saved as a beauty pass, so is a separate picture, 100 samples some few minutes to get there with my skin shader (Mix material with specular node and then some).
I use both Octane and Iray for different purposes and Octane has allowed me more freedom with my GTX870, I can't do any heavier scenes or fur with Iray, so I find my investment from 3 years ago well worth the results.
Octane 4 is now available for subscription users:

Also they have the new 2018.1 XB1 version that allows for features with nvlink support on RTX 2080 and 2080ti cards, however it is only for those who have a full license from what I am gathering...also the final build will require an additional purchase it would seem, of $179 to get all the new features as they launch going forward, which is on top of the full standalone license and also the full version of daz plugin:

For anyone interested in seeing what their score would be with Octane you can run their standalone benchmark:

You can view other users results for reference or your own as well if you post them here:

My score with a single Quadro P5000 was a very low 119.09....
With their unreleased 2019.1 (V6) they are getting 406.81 for a single RTX 6000:

Any tutorials in how to use Octane on standalone on Mac? Just subscribed but I can't seem to figure out how ot import my scenes into Octane.
Thank you!
Hey, I am not sure there is any difference on MAC version but here is a link from OTOY's manual for the standalone. It took me some time to figure it out when I first started but this manual should help you with alot of information you will need to use Octane...it is quite a bit to learn at first imo.
