Problem with G8 Male Sclera

I've only just begun using the Genesis 8 M & F models, but when rendering in 3DL when I add the 'Base MAT all mats' to the Genesis 8 Male his sclera always turns black. I have no problem with the G8 Female, or with either when using Iray. Any ideas what the problem is?

I posted this yonks ago but no-one ever commented  on it. I just tried the G8 male again and it's not only the sclera that's black it's also the eyeballs. Otherwise it's as I said above.

Hm not using G8 but render in 3Delight. Have you checked the eye surface/cornea to see if some settings are off? Do you have enough raytrace depth in the render settings to penetrate all eye surfaces?

  • The render settings and everything else is default. If there were any problems there then surely the G8 female would have the same eye problem? I've just loaded the G8m & G8f together to compare all their basic settings and both are identical, but while the female's eyes are as they should be, the male's are all black. Pre-render the male's eyes are totally visible, but they turn black when rendered, while the female's eyes render perfectly.

Here's the render. ... Or not! When I try to attach a file, browse and select, I just get "uploading" which never ends, while at the same time next to "Browse it says "no file selected"!

I haven't installed the G8:s so can't check, so have to guess. Did you try to dial in cornea bulge correction morph, or whatever it's called on G8M? If not, give it a try! Are the IOR (index of refraction) values identical for the female and the male? Go to your render settings editor and check your raytrace depth, if it's set to 1 it might not be enough, try upping it to 2 or 3 to see if that makes a difference!

  • Changing the render settings doesn't make any difference. If there is a "cornea bulge correction morph" I can't find it. Both G8 F & M have skin SSS but when I add them the the male's whole eye sockets go from black to white. ... There seems to be something up with the "attach a file" here as in  my last attempt to upload a JPG of the render I got "uploading" for over and hour and nothing uploaded. I'll try again using a different file name, but I don't think it will upload. Ooo! It has done. This is with the skin SSS at 25%. Without the SSS the male's eyes render totally black. I now think it's a glitch in the "Base MAT All Maps" and that I'll have to report it to customer services.

Ok, sorry I couldn't help:( Did you try applying some other characters' eyes to the male? You should file a report, meanwhile maybe some other forumer can help you;)

  • Thanks Sven. I have done one render for an FB group banner in which I used 2 x G8 males. I used the G3 eyes to get the eyes in, though they leave a white line on the bottom of the eyelids. On the render that doesn't appear, but I don't recall how I got ride of it.

This looks more like it's the "Eye Surface" material not the Sclera.

I typically use the settings recommended by @DAZ_Cjones in the Show Us Your Iray Render Pt II thread. ( direct link ) for my eye surfaces for Genesis 8 (male or female).

  • That's an interesting link re eyes, JonnyRae, and useful for future experimentation, but the problem I have seems to be a fault with the product itself - perhaps something got skewed on the download - as the settings for the G8m and the G8f are identical and there's no problem with the G8f. I have to submit a report to customer services, but I've not had time as yet as the PC+ sale's been keeping otherwise occupied! smiley

What I did was save G8F's eyes settings as a material file and then load that on G8M and then resaved  over the base G8M 3DL textures it' a bit of a run around but it saves time and frustration in the long run also if you have Michael 8.grab one of his 3DL eye MATs and use it then you don't end up with the white rings around the irises ,caused by the base figures are using the Genesis 3 templates which are different in the eyes.

  • Thanks Carrie. I've submitted a ticket so I'll let everyone know what feedback I get when I get it.

  • Is there any news? I have the same problem.
