Just a few Vladimir renders done on a friend's machine (I am waiting for payday before pulling the pin on the pro bundle) so I do not have my normal assets. With this in mind these are not my best work (please be gentle, it is my birthday) :)

I hope these renders do not embarrass me too much.

Now I see that you're right. Maybe it was my own wishful thinking, but I could swear I saw this offer in the morning... Ooops?!

I have often regretted going down the Daz Connect path and consider dumping it all and reinstalling with DIM. But (in spite of my incessant complaining), I am optimistic that someday they will fix Daz Connect. If not, I wish they would kill it and we'll all just use DIM again.

When someone asks, I recommend that they use DIM.

Thanks for the history. There is nothing in Daz's past behaviour that would lead me to believe that they are going to fix Daz Connect. Its purpose was encryption. Encryption was (at least for the present) voted down by the customers. So, Connect is in a somewhat similar situation as homeless tech like Hexagon and Carrara, although they were purchased by rather than birthed by Daz.

Connect also deals with some other issues - it allows updates per file, instead of the whole package (though I've met the same issue as Barbult, with some updates not showing in Connect). It also means that each product has its own set of files, so there's no risk of confusion over shared files. It also, thought he usefulness of this will depend on work habits, will handle isntalling products on the fly that are needed to load a scene.

    Again, my thoughts and beliefs:
On the subject of Daz Connect, encryption, and Smart Content....

Daz Connect is an installation method built into Daz Studio. It is capable of installing encrypted products, unlike DIM, but it never encrypts anything. As far as I know, there are NO encrypted products in the Daz store anymore. So there is no longer a need to use Daz Connect to install any product. Both DIM and manual installation are available to install content.

Daz Connect is not tied to Smart Content. Smart Content is available regardless of whether you install with Daz Connect, DIM, or manually. The thing that controls how well Smart Content works for a product is the quality of the metadata included in the product. Some products have excellent metadata; some products have no metadata; some products have horrible metadata. PC+ products seem to have the most metadata errors, based on my experience. "Lost and Found" is not a category that Daz intentionally puts an asset into; it is a catchall when Daz doesn't put the asset into any category - in other words, the metadata is incomplete. jakiblue noted a lot of frustrating metadata practices that drive me mad, too.

Oh, yes, and while I am on this rant, there are products that have Daz Connect installer, but are KNOWN to not work when installed with Daz Connect. Some script products are this way, but it is not just scripts. So, as a customer, you cannot use Daz Connect to install all of your content. You still have to rely on DIM or manual installation for some products. It is often left to YOU, the customer, to figure out that the product isn't working after Daz Connect install, and uninstall it, and install it another way. Several times I have written help requests to remove Daz Connect Installers for products that don't work with Daz Connect. It doesn't always get taken care of, though. So, user beware!

Edited to add: And some products install OK with Daz Connect, but don't work with CONTENT that was installed with Daz Connect, because they don't properly handle items in the cloud folder. Older scripts are especially prone to fail, because they were created before the cloud folder of Daz Connect was "a thing".

Another misconception is that Daz Connect stores your content in the infamous "cloud", i.e. on some server someplace other than your own computer. That is not, and has never been, the case. Daz Connect installs content into a folder on your hard drive on your computer. The name of that folder just happens to be "cloud". That naming choice has caused a lot of confusion and unwarranted suspicion among customers.

Was there a one day extra % Vladimir on his release yesterday? He cost more in my cart today than he did yesterday so wasn’t sure if it was a glitch or introductory deal?

Smart Content is basically useless if you have a large quantity of products from other stores, freebies and so on... which I do... so I find it to be about as useful as dictionary that only goes from A-P.  I actually use DIM itself to locate file locations and it's generally faster in any case.  DAZ Connect... that was just a bad idea from day one.

Ok, the addons were cheaper too, I didn’t realize at first, the extra 10% off for plus members doesn’t seem to be working at the moment either so I’m gonna a hold off buying for now anyway, the 3 character addons got wishlisted too

I was surprised to see another bulky character right after the Brute.  I wouldn't have minded if Vlad was demonic or a vampie, even though I hate monsters.  That being said, no Black Vlad so here is Vladimirius

Vladimirius! Ha! What a handsome fellow. There's an NFL player named Barkevious; (his surname is actually Mingo). I thought of that because of your character's name and his football physique. Wonderful job. I really want to ask the mix, but I'm not sure if that is proper etiquette.

No problem, Vlad 63% Darius 50%

And so, back to the topic at hand - Vladimir. I reused my Old Country Farmhouse setup to create a new scene with Ryker HD and the Giant HD (for Brute 8). Ryker is wearing dForce Medieval Villager Outfit for Genesis 8 Male(s) and the  Giant is wearing dForce Orelius Gladiator Outfit for Genesis 8 Male(s).

dForce Medieval Villager Outfit for Genesis 8 Male(s) simulated without any errors, but the belt does not simulate and is invisible to simulation. This meant that the belt end was hidden inside the tunic after simulation finished. I used the included morphs to move it into position outside the tunic. The knot of the belt stuck through the tunic, too. Again I used included morphs and added smoothing to resolve that.

I first created an image where Ryker had slain the Giant. I used the Ryker scar LIE preset for a slash on the Giant's throat. My husband declared that too violent for the forum, so I did this attached TOS-friendly image instead. But keep in mind that the Ryker LIE presets can be easily used on other characters. Just move the layer into position wherever you want it.

Wow,  @barbult that Giant skin looks pretty gnarly, have you tried it on a regular guy? I wonder if it looks as detailed

I don't really render vikings or medieval stuff, so I just got the base. I still think they should've made him a large burly vampire. Now that would've been refreshing to see, at least to me. Oh well, I have other products to make due.

What I liked about him the most was his stomach. A lot of heavy-laborer type men don't have such defined abs. yes

The Blacksmith Outfit update was just a metadata update to take 3Delight materials out of the Iray materials category.

I can't figure out those "LIE" presets from Ryker - the tattoo is supposed to be LIE but when I tried putting it on another character, it came in as skin for the arms and torso, not a LIE on its own that I could manipulate.

The Tattoo is NOT LIE, in spite of what the product page says. The tag on the top of the other thumbnails (dirt, lip split, scar) shows they are Layered presets, The tag on top of the tattoo thumbnail says Materials, just like normal materials.

Yes, there was.  At least, there was on the pro bundle, as it actually rang out at $38 something.  Not sure about the base or starter bundles.

That price might've been a glitch. I got him at $42.51 (and I'm a PC+ member), unless there was stacking that I didn't know about? Was there additional discount added by getting any add-ons?

$42.51 is the price today.  On day one the Vlad Pro Bundle was a Debut new item and PC+ members got an extra 10% off those, making the price $38.25.  There was also an extra 10% off most of the add-ons if you bought on day one.
