I need to create some additional space on my HD. What are the recommened archival devices?

Also .. i have tons of zip files of products, programs , and stuff .. need to archive all thiose and also find duplicate files. any good software fo rthat?
what do you all save or just do away with? I thought about just deleting all the DAZ install files, but you never know if they should go belly up or end up not keeping all their stuff active.

Not quite sure what you're asking...

Your hard drive is running out of space, and you don't want to buy a larger one correct? I assume it's your system drive? And presumably (hopefully) you have the important stuff on that hard drive already backed up somehow? So you'll also have to back up the archive too, right?

And it sounds like you want to archive some program files? Personally, I've found that it's so much easier just to re-download software from the web if things go belly-up, rather than save them. And it saves a ton of hassle trying to back it all up. When I had a hard drive crash, it only took me a couple hours to re-download and install most of my software, and the important docs and stuff were on a backup drive.

Anyway, if it was me I'd just get a larger hard drive since they're so cheap. Or just get a second drive and move a bunch of stuff to the second drive. I think a 500GB drive is only like $25 right now.

me, i have a transfer cable to transfer things onto one of my older computers as backup - if you do not have an old computer i guess that would not be an option for you - if i were trying to create space on my hard drive i would start by deleting about 50 or so game programs i have not played in years before i touched my daz or poser files - if yo go to your control panel and click it you will find an option "unistall programs". then you can list your programs in order of size and spot large ones you do not use to uninstall.

just a suggestion - it may be easier to delete games or other programs you never plan on using again or the near future than it is to delete daz or poser and the content files

Everything is the fastest file search tool for WIndows.  It bypasses the windows search function which is why its so fast.

7zip and its own compressed format, 7z, is a better compression than Zip or even Rar.  Converting files to 7z can help save space.

Aside form that, get a 4TB or bigger external storage and back up your files to it.  Make sure it and your computer are USB3.1 or you're going to be waiting for a while.

Two easiest things to do are move your DAZ DIM Zip files to external USB drive, 5GB can be had for about $125 on Amazon & cut & paste all YouTube videos you have to an external USB drive.

The DIM downloads folder which has the download zips of all content takes up a lot of space.  Double check with others first, but I was told that you can delete those files with no problems.  I saved a copy on an external drive, in case the info was wrong, then I deleted the download folder.  My content is still there and Daz works fine.

Buy a 1T external drive and move your excess files. They're cheap and reliable!

I actually have two external drives and duplicate my files in case one will fail. I do professional stuff on the side and can't afford to lose my work. Small price to pay for security. Best part is the drives, Daz products, and whatever else I purchase for the business, it's all tax deductible.
