Workspace Weirdness

Random question: does anyone else have an issue where the tabs in a section will just get up and mix themselves up for no reason at all?

An example: On my "Actors, Wardrobes and Props" section, I have the following tabs: Smart Content, Shaping, Surfaces (Color), Parameters -- in that order. That's how I arranged them.

Every so often, I'll do a render, come back to the Actors section, and the tabs will be: Smart Content, Parameters, Surfaces, Shaping, or some other combination of those bottom three. I did not change the sequence myself. I did not ask Studio to change them. And yet, there they are, reordered. (Weirdly, Smart Content pretty much never ever moves. It's also the one tab I never ever use, but there you go.) The tabs don't cross -- I have tabs on both sides of the screen, and whatever is on the left side stays there, and whatever is on the right side stays there. Within that side, however, they will periodically just decide to stir things around for no good reason.

It's not a huge deal -- it's more annoying than anything else, and it's easy enough to reorder. I was just wondering if anyone else experiences this.

I've noticed that too, but figured it was me accidentally moving them and not realizing it when setting up scenes, render settings, surface settings, etc.

  • Yep, happens all the time. Seems to get my workspace almost every time I re- launch.

Nope, its not you Diva, its the program.

Don't think I've ever experienced this. But I also have them locked:  Window > Workspace > Lock Docking/Undocking

I'll give that a shot and see if it keeps things from moving around. For some reason, I thought that it would keep things from getting removed accidentally (which I have done), but that it wouldn't keep them from moving, but it's logical that it would .

happens all the time to me.

i save my workspace layouts every time i change them, now.  then restoring the correct setup is only a menu drop away.

I have the workspace locked and it still happens all the time, I've gotten used to it so not a big problem;)

It happens to me all the time, too, but I just drag them back to the order they had been in before they danced around.

I have mine tabs across the top and not down the side.  I have never had my tab move.  Maybe its just an issue with tabs on the side.

  • it could also be an issue with something (e.g. security software) interfering with the writing of the layout files on closing DS - but I would expect that to cause a reversion to the defaults rather than a random shuffle.

I have mine down the side, and they don't move, so that's probably not it.

Could also be a mouse problem. I've noticed with one of my trackballs that the button switch sometimes stick for a little while after releasing it, so that if I click on e.g. a browser tab and then, after releasing the button, move the mouse, it drags the tab off the panel.

Funny thing is I've never seen it actually happen, just notice after a while things have changed order. (again=)). Then you have to unlock, move them where they were and lock them again.
