GPU Preference and Render Times?
Hello.
I am beginning the process of making a mobile set-up for my laptop via eGPU enclosure. I am looking at several cards and can't decide which to leverage for this venture: the Nvidia GTX 1080 ti & Titan Xp.
My question is which of these would be better suited for 3D Modeling and rendering? What are you renders times like with the cards you have- say a still image with interior lighting? And if you had a different suggestion, which card would you use?
I was initially leaning toward the 1080 ti based strictly price- even knowing the reduction with CUDA Cores, but should I deam the Titan necessary I would choose that.
I spent a good time online searching for videos to demonstrate render capabilities, but it seems everything they compared the cards to were for gaming which doesn't apply to what I want to accomplish. Given the GTX 1080 ti has gotten a good amount of praise for being a budget card that can bridge the gaming and editing aspects, I was intrigued.
I appreciate any responses or tips you can provide me!
My Laptop Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-8750H @ 2.20GHz
GPU: GeForce GTX 1060
RAM: 16 GB

Just check the specs of eGPU enclosure. I have seen many of them having only a 8-bit PCI express bus,
which can lower significantly down the capability of the graphic card inserted.
There was also complains about disconnections of the eGPU by itself, making it not so very stable.
I was looking at eGPU for using the new graphic card on Mac, because they have rarely Nvidia card internally.
At least new Macs have Thunderbolt 3 connection at hefty 40 GBits/s.
If you buy the eGPU, please make some tests and posts the results here. Thanks.
