Daz bridge with Photoshop???

I'm trying to figure it out

Ok, I push the Photoshop 3D Bridge button in the file menu for Daz

Then I go to Photoshop and launch the bridge from there

I got the image from Daz to show up in Photoshop, but that was only from "Render to New Layer"

I see in a video that it'll show up on a layer and it'll update whenever you go changes...it's not doing that for me

Which option did they use? I usually need to use the import image maps option for live updates.

Well, we could start by you telling me what you're trying to do, and I can help you with how to do it.

The auto update feature doesn't actually work, if that's what you mean. What you do, is hit Import Image Maps, choose the ones you want, make your edits, then hit Export Image Maps and select them there. What will happen is Photoshop will create copies in the same folder your existing textures are in and automatically change them in the surfaces panel. This helps to avoid overwriting the originals.

Each time you make edits, you hit export. You don't have to re-import them every time.

If you're looking to get the actual 3D model, you need to use Export as U3D, but this is dependent on you having Photoshop Extended. You cannot import an actual 3D model into Photoshop without it. If you don't have Extended, then all you can do is render to new layer, or import/export image maps.

Importing the maps won't import the model, only the textures from the surfaces tab in DS.

If you're looking to full on paint in 3D, the easier option I've found is export the figure as an OBJ in DS and be sure to use the collect/write materials option. As long as the materials are collected into the same folder as the OBJ, then when you import the OBJ into Photoshop, it will have all of the textures based on the figures surface zones. From there it's a matter of transferring the new mats to a folder in your Runtime\Textures and setting the surface material in DS.

If I understand the original question correctly, then you should be able to get auto update to work as you think it should. I am using Daz 4.6 and Photoshop CS 6 extended but it has worked for me from version 3 of Daz, both 32 and 64 bit versions, with the corresponding 32 or 64 bit version of Photoshop Extended. This is how I think it should work at a basic level:
    1. Initialise Photoshop 3D bridge plugin in Daz studio (from the file menu in Version 4 of Daz Studio. This should create a 3D bridge camera in Daz - keep using this camera for anything you want to see in Photoshop.
    2. From the File/automate menu item in Photoshop Extended, click on Daz Studio 3D bridge.
(I appreciate you already did this but though the full steps might help other people viewing this post.)
    3. In the pop up panel with options for Daz Studio 3D Bridge, click on 'Preview Image'. At this stage, accept the default size of 800x600 pixels. Leave the options for 'Import to layer' and 'Import Image Maps' unchecked.
    4. In the pop up panel for Daz Studio 3D Bridge that should still be on screen in Photoshop, you should now be able to select 'Enable Auto Update', so select this.
    5. All the other options in the pop up panel will now be greyed out, but now, if you change the view in Daz, using the 3D Bridge camera, the image in Photoshop should update in real time - any delay depending on how good your computer system is.
    6. When you have got the scene as you would like it in Daz (which should have made the preview in Photoshop also as you like it), click the 'Disable auto update' option in Photoshop.
    7. You can now click on 'Render to new layer' in Photoshop and this will create a new layer and render the scene to this layer using your Daz render settings - if your scene is complex this could take a lot of time (as long as it would take to render in Daz). During this time the 3D Bridge options in Daz will be greyed out and it might look as if the render via the plugin isn't working.
    8. When the render has finished, you will have a new layer in Photoshop with the final render quality. The original preview render will also be there as a Background layer.
    9. At this stage, you could do another preview render with bigger pixel dimensions - this will create a new document in Photoshop. I have found that some pixel dimensions can cause a crash or not show up in Photoshop, though, especially larger sizes, which is why I suggest you start with the default 800x600 to see if the programs communicate as they should. I have just tried a 3000x2000 preview image size and it worked OK. Probably best to start with a simple scene eg single textured figure to see if things work.

Hope this helps. I know some people have problems and these may be related to system differences. I am using Windows 7 64 bit.

Preview Image results in a blank, white image, and Enable Auto Update flickers and then goes back to normal, never actually enabling. Update Image does absolutely nothing. I have the exact same setup as you, right down to the OS, and this is the only part that's never worked properly for me whether in DS4, 4.5, or 4.6 and CS5 Extended, or CS6 Extended. I've always ran both in 64bit.

Have you tried a very small preview render eg changing the default from 800x600 to say 120x90? In earlier versions of Daz and Photoshop I think I did get something similar to what you describe as a preview, depending on the preview window size. I had to do the preview in Photoshop small, set up things in Daz as I wanted them, which would show in Photoshop with auto update with a small preview. When I was happy, I had to set a larger preview in Photoshop - I got just a blank window when I did this but when I clicked on 'render to new layer' the render itself did appear as it should in Photoshop. This is not a good workaround to have to do but if the preview works at a very low setting it might give an idea as to how to get to a better solution.
