Real World Frustrations

Let me try this again. My desires have been to portray people who live "in the Real World," as opposed to Fantasy or SciFi. I've encountered many challenges, with regards to clothing and characters I could use. Things look a bit brighter to me after seeing Floyd 8, Mabel 8, etc. Now we have older characters, along with clothes, hair, and props to support them. I have various goals when it comes to stories or characters to portray. Older people have been a focus for me because I am a "senior citizen." But I also have an interest in portraying the experiences of other characters, out in the "Real World."

I wanted to assemble a collection of scenes such as a large grocery store, a convenience store (like 7-11 or SuperAmerica), with gas pumps outside, etc. I bought a Corner Convenience Store that I'll use eventually. But I can't find the other stuff. Years ago, I had a freebie grocery store scene. I lost that when my hard drive(s) died. Also, I have never found the type of clothes that an employee in a convenience store or grocery store might wear. You know, the smock that goes over your clothes, the baseball cap that matches.

Do people make such items, or are they more focused on what us old timers used to call "Naked Vickies in a Temple?!"

I would suggest taking photos of places like convenience stores and supermarkets. It’s very easy to blend characters into photo backgrounds in post and those kinds of scenes are very intensive to render (and if you can find them, probably more on the expensive side...) It’s easy to kit bash outfits, there are waiter and waiter outfits that could pass as smocks, lots of outfits come with baseball caps and you can get that from any generation and make it fit. Just use shaders to make everything match! And don’t forget you can mix all your characters to make new ones, use skins for one on another, play with morphs...

There's a free supermarket I think on shareCG (It was posted in the freebies section as well)

Also there's a little convenient shop that would make a perfect gas station by just adding a couple pumps outside. Also a freebie on shareCG and I believe posted about in the freebie section.

I'll have to look those 2 up.

A link with the link to the supermarket

I'm not going to go over the "why skimpier clothes are more cost-efficient to make" thing again.  I think we're all sick of that discussion.  But I will offer some suggestions:

Chacornac makes a lot of free sets and Wilmap makes a lot of free clothes of many kinds.  Both have largely contemporary stuff.

Here's a convenience store.  The rest of this person's shop is largely NSFW, just so no one gets shocked and blames me.

(Edit: it took me so long to write a post that someone else already posted the Aemis Shop.)

Imaginary_3d at Renderosity has a clothing shop and candy shop.

So far I haven't been able to find a grocery store anywhere.  I can't say I'm completely surprised.  Filling all those shelves, stocking a deli and bakery and florist, etc., seems like a labor for Sisyphus.

  • Check out Blue Tree Studio at Renderosity.  Ignore the fact that it says Poser only.  I do promo work for them and their stuff all works beautifully in Daz both Iray and 3Delight.  We just did a fast food restaurant.  Be aware that the sets are huge.
