So many sales, not enough money.

I hadn't followed DAZ closely for a few years. Now it seems DAZ is having a sale at least every other day, if not more frequently. Is this too much of a good thing?! I usually avoid complicated sales, and just look for incredibly cheap prices on Pro Packs, etc. Sometimes the older Genesis Generations are on sale, dirt cheap. It gives me a chance to catchup. But then Victoria 8 was sold cheap recently if you have a PC Club membership.

I need to discipline myself. It's so easy to go nuts, and buy stuff. I'll likely set a lower limit for my "DAZ budget," and concentrate on sales at the end of a month or beginning of the next month. It all depends when my direct deposit from Social Security arrives. I'm usually out of money by the second week of the month. Even then I need to be more serious about paying bills and buying groceries!

  • Well, it is one of the big sale months of the year; but even so DAZ is always having some kind of sale. It's just DAZ marketing doing what they are incredibly good at -- getting you to spend your money.

Yeah, it can easily get "out of control" if you don't budget. Groceries and bills come first. :) As long as you make a "Daz monthly budget" and stick to it then it's all good. Sticking to it is the hard part. lol

  • Divamakeup, it's so easy to shop online. I've spent a lot of money at Amazon. Now I've added DAZ to my list of easy, guilty pleasures!

Thankfully this is one of the only places I purchase things online, but I agree, they make it very easy to overspend with the great products and the daily sales. heheh ;)

One thing that I did ... I opened a separate account with it's own debit card to use for Daz (and other hobby) purchases. Then I transfer my $50 / month into that account. So I know if it's empty I've spent all I can that month. You could do something similar by pre-paying a Paypal account or something and not tying it to your bank / credit card accounts.

  • Divamakeup, I have rarely left my house for months at a time. I often order all the non-perishable food I want from Amazon or WalMart. Sometimes I use a local food-delivery company. They will even let me buy alcohol, and deliver it to my door.

JohnyRay, I keep telling myself to do that, use at least one new card for impulse spending. I even got a couple new cards, and never put any money into the accounts. I'm not even sure if they've remained active. Maybe I'll do it next month!

I should start a new routine next month. Write a check for the rent, pay my bills. Then I can go to a cash machine and take out whatever money I need to go grocery shopping. Hey, I need a haircut. I've only had one haircut in 4 years. I'm about ready to make it into a ponytail, but have no idea what to do.

Oh goodness - I hope you get out and about more. It's not good for most people to be away from other people so much. People need people! heheh :D It's good to socialize - makes life more pleasant (at least for me, I know that others may take a different view). :)

  • Divamakeup, my brothers and I have always been very shy and introverted. At times I've been able to reach out a bit, and even "perform," or speak in front of groups. But I mostly stay in my apartment. Sometimes I do go out, briefly, and hang out in one of our lobbies. We have huge lobbies on all 3 floors, and nice places to sit outside. I do feel at home living in a "Senior Citizen" building. I'm on the outskirts of Hastings, MN. It's a small town on the Mississippi River. I live about 2.5 miles from downtown. We're "in the country," so our public transportation is a bit limited. We can request a bus for certain times to see the doctor or go shopping. But we can't take a lot of groceries on the bus. We also have one "ride share" company that usually on has one minivan on the road for each shift. I can ride anywhere in town for $7. I usually give the driver a $3 tip each way. The cost would normally be $7 round trip. I give the driver a $20. That might not be a huge tip, but they seem to appreciate it.

I was married a few years, from 1999 to 2005. It was a dreary situation. Everyone loved my wife, but no one would talk to me. I got through the loss ok. WIthin a couple years of my divorce, I embarked on a middling YouTube adventure that lasted a few years. I had a few fans, and attracted way too many trolls.

  • Well, WE like ya, Ron!

The next 2 months are gonna hit your budget hard or at least your level of tempations. Watch for Gift Certificate Sales.

  • JazzyBear, my memory is actually working recently! I remember you! Thanks for your support. I'm slowly working on a projected plan to target what I want the most. I got way behind a few years ago. I never did much with any of the Generation 4 people. Now we're up to Genesis 8! I haven't done much of anything with any of the Genesis generations. I want to have a variety of characters from different Generations. It's a challenge trying to find character sets, clothes, hair and poses for the older generations. Sometimes product prices for Michael 4 or Victoria 4 stuff still seems a bit high.

I'd like to get all or most of the Genesis 8 characters and clothes, etc. I often look for Pose and Expression sets first. I'm not really interested in the kids for now. I do like the increased amount of more mature characters like Mabel 8, Floyd 8, etc. We can even get "mature, and older" characters. I think Edward is younger than Floyd, for instance.

To all my friends: have a wonderful day, night, etc.

Oh, it's sooooo tempting to overspend! I've spent more than I want to admit recently.

I have quite a lot of items on my wishlist, but there are actually only a few that I really, really want. Those are the only one's I'm currently "allowed" to buy, and only if they are at 50% or less. All other items I don't touch, no matter how good the deal. I keep reminding myself that there's a lot of items in my library that I haven't used for any renders yet. I first have to use almost everything I already have before I allow myself to buy new things.

Hylas, I know the feeling. Hey I was inspired to play around tonight. I finally remembered that DAZ gave us the morphs for older characters in Genesis. So I loaded the Genesis default male, converted him to Michael 4, and had him wearing a lot of different clothes. This is the silliest picture I've made in awhile. I used a "canned" smile expression. It looks like the smile actually affected his hat too!

Ron, that sounds like a pretty nice town you live in. It reminds me of Clarksville, TN where i lived a few yrs ago. I lived about 10 minutes from downtown, but there were more than a hew houses with horses, cows, etc grazing in their yards. And if you drive north for about 15 miles, you're in Amish country. Its an awesome place if you dont like big cities.
  • Kitsumo, I live far enough away from downtown where the town really doesn't seem a part of my daily life. In contrast, my apartment building is the main focus of my experience. We live in a large building, on top of a hill. There's a park nearby, and residential houses, etc. It's really safe and quiet around here. Have a wonderful day.

I at least stuck to my guns this time and haven't bought anything until there's a decent DO asian character or a decent DO male. Saved me a lot of money so far ;). Thanks Daz...lol.

It's good that you are able to get rides into town when you need. Hopefully, if you're feeling up to it, you can talk with others in the building you live in. I'm sure they'd appreciate the compnay. :)

  • I do stick my head out from time to time. Cub Foods, a local grocery store chain, gives us free "day old" bakery goods. We get them every Friday. I go down when the 3rd floor gets "first pick" of the goodies. I often get 12" cookies, etc. It's a good excuse to chat with the neighbors. We have a fantastic bunch of people living here. I've only run into some minor problems with one person. She was eventually forced to move from the 3rd floor to the first floor. Problem solved.

Really, I make an effort to treat everyone with respect. Yeah I'm shy. But every time I see someone, I give them a huge "hello!, and maybe a little joke." I want to let them know, in a simple way that I like and respect them. I chitchat with them as much as possible. Sometimes I just end up staring at the ceiling, but cover it up by making a joke. We do just fine.
