HDRI help, completely stumped :(

Hey guys!

Trying to create my own HDRI's, however running into an issue with full sun outdoor scenes.

It seems it is not capturing the intensity of the sun and the resulting render is left under exposed, with incorrect lighting and shadows.

This doesn't seem to be an issue on cloudy HDRI's.

I don't know much about making your own HDRIs, but I noticed a couple recent threads had some info about it. Perhaps they will be helpful:

You dn't mention what you'e using to make your own HDR's so the answer could cover a billion things. For starters, for the kind of dynamic lighting you're needing for a sun image they need to be 32-bit images effectively composed of multiple (as in 12 to 15 or even more) separate exposures taking at different settings. If you're doing this in Photoshop there are some different techniques to use. But again, this is a huge field to cover.

It's my dad that's doing it, we're going to try taking more exposures 2 stops apart. He's using PTGUI to stitch RAW images together to create the HDR pano, I think he's currently doing 3 exposures above and below, but I think they may only be 1 stop apart.

I can paint in the sun on the HDR image and it works, but this isn't ideal.

I've recently started playing around with this myself.

Are you saving the final file as a .hdr ?
