IG Photographer's Toolbox: 35mm Cameras, comparision to normal Daz Camera ?

Hi,

After checking the product description and the promo images of this product (https://www.daz3d.com/ig-photographers-toolbox-35mm-cameras), I can't understand what is the difference between this and a normal camera in Daz Studio. For the promo images, I can't see anything that couldn't be created using the normal camera?

But maybe I'm wrong, hopefully someone can help me with this, a comparision image would be nice :D

Thanks a lot.

Subscribing, I did buy the IG light set which is awesome, but I couldn't really discern whats different with the regular camera's.

It is not a new camera, but a set of presets to be used to set the existing camera(s) up in particular ways to represent a 35mm camera, and all its many options, in particular head light options that would simulate the use of a flash. There is also a tutorial to help explain what all the presets are designed for. There are also some add-ons to add gels and grids to the camera. Look here for a full list of the files included:

I looked at this and thought it was an interesting idea, but in this day of dslrs and camera phones, the "universality" of 35mm as a reference is no longer the constant that it once was. For example, my primary dslr, a Canon T3i, has a 1.6 crop factor, so a 18mm lens is the equivalent of a 29mm and a 135mm = a 219mm in 35.  On the other hand, I've used the headlamp to simulate a flash a number of times, so having the modifiers for that might be pretty useful.

There are CMOS sensors in some Nikon and Canon DSLRs that are the same size as 35mm

True, and Pentax and Sony have some dslr models with them as well.  Heck, Leica makes a full-frame rangefinder.  But my point was that they've been the exceptions rather than the standard for many, many years now... especially for the cel phone generation.

this product looked really interesting to me.  i haven't had the budget to pick it up yet.  but the ability to duplicate a real 35mm lense's depth of field and framing and foreground-background compression and light intake sounds very attractive. i've never had much luck finessing that stuff with the base studio camera.  but i can manage it pretty well with a SLR and a lens i know.

from the promos and the promo text, it looks like IG took the lens modelling pretty seriously.  and the lens array seems to cover all of the basic SLR workhorses.  there's even a 135mm!  my personal favorite.

    Hi,

Thanks for the input so far. However I still can't understand the differences between this camera and daz normal camera, with the same settings? Sorry I have no experience with DSLR cameras and photography in general.

Maybe this product is only for Photographers (as the name suggests hehe). But if anyone has this, can you please do a quick render to show the differences of the 2 cameras under the same conditions and settings?

    Thanks a lot.

    Best regards,

    M

If you put the settings of the default camera to the same values provided by the presets in this product, the result will be identical. It doesn't seem give you anything you don't already have (apart from the tutorial and headlamp and filter things?), just a quick and easy way to give the same effect without all the messing around. Probably useful for people with no photographic experience, if they care that their images look like a photograph would. Anyone who knows, for example, what f5.6 using an 80mm lens would look like can probably get the required results on their own.

This is kind of a niche product that might not be for everyone. As others have already said, these are Daz Studio default cameras that have been tweaked. This isn't some earthshattering change, its more of a change in user experience when you set up your scene so a direct comparison render isn't gong to show you all that much. Ultimately, I made these camera for me. I've always been frustrated with the daz camera that says it is supposed to be a 35mm camera but has never felt right. Long story short, I got sick and tired of constantly finding my camera stuck in a wall while trying to frame a shot that I knew I should have been able to get in the real world.

Small, light, easy to carry around, easy to use, I love my old t3i

So you're saying the values have been tweaked so it resembles lenses we'd expect as a photographer? For me this does sound attractive. Basically together with your light set you can pretty much model any lighting setup you see on photography websites.

...putting this on the wishlist for when I get my next SS payment in a couple days.

I agree I often have issues with the base Daz cameras as well, particularly interior scenes.

Used to be into photography back in the days when there as still this stuff called "film".  Have my original 35mm kit which would cost a fortune to replace with its digital counterparts today.

Yes, thats the idea. Originally it was all supposed to be one product but it alll kind of got out of hand and ended up needing being split into several products.
