nail and nail bed disagreement?

i was wondering why my character's big toenail looked like there was dirt under the nail. and changing mats or surface settings didn't seem to affect the grime at all.
so i took a closer look today, and realized that the nail bed was poking through the nail surface. at least that's what it looks like.
here's a render of the problem area...

...and a screengrab from my viewport, after i extended the nail length a little bit to frame the weird zone a little better.

any idea what's causing the problem, or how i might be able to fix it?
i thought that some of the g3f foot morphs i'd converted to g8f morphs might be the culprits. but i've pulled them out of the morphs directory, and the problem is still there.
randomly or relevantly: i do have flexions turned off to prevent some weird mesh distortion i was getting with the character.
thanks!

Wow looks like he kicked the bedpost in the middle of the night !! ......other then that I haven't got a clue ..sorry .....is it both big toes?
i don't know, carrie58. i'd guess so, but i haven't run any renders that would show. i'll check tomorrow.

It looks like there are morphs on still. Show hidden and select Currently Used in the parameters pane and see if *anything* is active whlie you have that. If not, you could have a morph on that defaults to on instead of being dialed in that you aren't seeing.
I think I've seen that on a few of mine but I never really took much notice of it them
in Carrara using Misty's fix the toe shoots right through the nail on some character morphs, she says its something DAZ did that DS has a fix for Carrara cannot read so maybe something is affecting that fixative morph, just guessing
It is also possible that there may be a displacment setting on the toes that bump it up through the nail. I know I have had to wrestle that many times. But DAZ's qa is usually good at catching that kind of thing.
Looks like feet of my girls
Can you tell me which morphs you're using? I already checked and fixed an issue with the Misumi HD morph which seemed to have some of this. I'll submit the update soon. But maybe some combination of morphs can exacerbate the issue. Nail and nailbed are just very close together, it's finnicky stuff.
