How to completely annul a surface?

I'm having a problem in a environment where some parts of it are all mixed together. The only way to remove some undesired parts, is to change the specific surface.

I was able to make disappear changing Cutout Opacity to 0, however the object keep interfering in the rendering process. Specifically when I use a geometric spot light in the disk format, a black disk appear when the camera vision pass through the object.

How completely annul that surface? Just changing every surface property to zero is the way to go?

Turning things to zero is often a problem.

Make the opacity very, very small 0.001 ...BUT NOT ZERO!

If you want to completely remove a surface switch to the Geometry Editor tool, then in the Tool Settings pane find the surface you want and click the eye icon next to it. That way the geometry won't even be sent to the render engine.

If you fiddle with the surfaces settings... say with hair, will it save the next time the hair is loaded or does it reset?

Save a new preset - materials or wearables - from File>Save As.

    Thank you very much

I took me a while to figure how to use the tool. I was using the menu option "Tools"->"Geometry Editor" but nothing was happening, then I figure out that I had to enable the "Tool Settings" pane on the Window menu.

I was able to remove the surface in a way that is not interfering in the lights.

I got curious with the Geometry Editor thing, ended up not trying this, but thank you for your help too.
