Hello everyone! I’m attempting to get something started and could use your feedback and/or help. I’ve been a gamer for a very long time and over the years my passion has shifted to MMORPG’s, which is short for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Technology for communication in these games has come a long way since the first MMO. Now lots of people are using a free software called Discord to communicate via Chat or Speech. It’s become so popular that even non-game related organizations are using it.
I thought it might be an amazing idea to create a Discord server for those of us that create 3D art. So I spent the better half of this morning populating a server with Categories for just that purpose. I thought why not? Its free, easy to use and provides a real time discussion environment.
Discord can be used via a standalone desktop program or via an app on your phone, allowing members to communicate at any time or anywhere there is a reception for your phone or tablet.
What I need help with right now is feedback. I need willing individuals to join the server and let me know what could be added or even changed for a better flow in communication and information sharing.
I will need moderators and assistant admins if this catches on but I also have a few ideas for other roles for helpful individuals and the like.
You can read more about Discord here: https://discordapp.com
That page also has the download link for the program.
To join the server just click this link: https://discord.gg/VqXdRWt
Or search for 3D Art Central
Hope to see some of you join up and offer some feedback!

Awesome! I love Discord, thanks for making this!
Thanks @brimstoneomega I'm setting this up for anyone who uses Poser, Daz or Blender. Depending on suggestions that list may even grow. Its a way to ask questions, get help and just chat with anyone about 3D art and its creation, in one community. Thanks for reading my post :)
Its really just a discussion site. I did make a Deviantart Group (with the same name) to showcase art and those can be linked in chat channels. There TOS gives them the ability to use art posted for their promotial purposes, for the program/app but only if the actual image is posted in the chat. I'm not to crazy about that so I didn't add a Gallery section.
I was thinking along the lines of being able to post shader settings or information about dforce in real time if someone asks a question. Or announcements on new products with links to the site they originate. So far I'm covering Daz, Poser and Blender.
Good lord, thats....disturbing.
None of that here. TOS totally forbid such images.
I wonder if that name will cause confusion with the existing PA Collective3D who has been around for a while.
That's who I thought it was at 1st until I read the thread.
Same here.
Personally I can't see a use for this new idea, but hope it does well for you.
I personally think there's a great use for this new idea, but I've also used Discord before I started getting into DS. Discord is a tool to facilitate communication and community. All the times someone has had a question about x,y,z they would have instant access to help, and if they were incapable of explaining the issue or how to do something anyone could chime in at any point to help out or to sherpa them alone the path. I understand that these forums can do the same things as well, but as I said to Lotharen in the Discord server, forums are like sending letters in the mail, where as Discord is like phone calls. Both have their uses and strengths, but they can be very different uses. Imagine someone who has good knowledge of lighting or how to use dForce or whatever. They could have a weekly (or not even, this is just to illustrate the power of discord) class where they not only have a group of people in a call, but they can share their screen and everyone in the group can see exactly what they are doing in the software, in real time, all while being able to answer questions and explain the process. Like a YouTube tutorial, only in real time.
I understand that there is other ways to to get things done that one can use Discord for, but there's a reason why it's so widely used all over the world, it's one of the better ways to communicate over the internet with people from all over that have the same interests as you.
I'm not saying that Discord would be better then the forums, just different, as the forums have more longevity in the fact that a post will sit there forever, just like a letter, and Discord discussions only stay there as long as people don't change the subject (think of it like a chat room, there's only so much space for the lines on the screen, not that they get deleted, in fact you can scroll through the chat even years back).
I hope more people take a look and just it at least a fair shake. If you don't like it then don't use it, it's free and can be used in a dedicated app or just in you web browser, all you will have lost is probably the time it took you to read though this wall of text I typed. When I started actually getting into Daz Studio I was a bit dismayed that there was no Discord for it. I use Discord for so many things these days it came as a real surprise to me that there wasn't one. I, for one, am all on board for this.
I will probably join this.
Just joined!
I tried to use the invite link and it told me that it's expired. I can't get search to work for me.
It wasn't suppose to expire, try this one: https://discord.gg/wB5EPUx

@colinfrench and @wiz with the server name being close to those you listed I will be changing it in the near furure (once I decide on a new name). Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
Changed the Server name to 3D Art Central
That worked for me when I copied and pasted your post into my private discord room and clicked it from there! :D
Cool. I'll check it out.
Is this still up and running? I need link if I can rejoin.
May I also get an invite to this discord?
Invalid Invites
I have tried to DM Lotharen a couple of times, so the invite link could be updated and working again
But since Lotharen has not answered back, then it wouldn't hurt, to check out this link here : https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/334491/daz3d-offical-discord-server
Bare in mind, it is "not" the same discord as the one Lotharen are talking about.
But it is for the Daz users.
