need more old folk hair styles though. woemn bald too, but not same pattern as men
Yeah, those were really nice. And the AlFan head morphs too :)
Great render!
Laurie
I had to make a decision yesterday between Kaylee while still on sale and Mabel. Definitely going with Mabel. Kaylee is cute and her pro bundle is in my wishlist but I already have sooo much stuff similar to her and her bundle whereas, although I now have decent collection of old people, the skin on this looks great and I don't already have anything similar to what's in the bundles. So, in my cart she goes.
I also like that she has a sort of generic look and can take morphs well, you can't pinpoint it is her unlike Alexandra and Edie that look so specific even when just dialed in part way...
I will probably try this myself soon when I have time, but has anyone tried dialing in a beautiful younger (late20's to 30-ish) character to her and see what that does? I'm curious to see if she looks like an elderly beautiful woman or if it makes her look younger altogether...
One of the promos did have that blend of Mabel and Monique, with the Monique skin. It definitely came out as an older woman of color. Not quite *as* old as Mabel with her own skin, but older that base Monique by a couple of decades at least.
Reminds me a little to Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty R.I.P.) from the Golden Girls. Now I understand why the is named "Estelle Hair".
Not bad with Mabel Monique mix. But with regular skin, she doesn't look as old as Mabel
For something like that, it would probably work a little better to use Mabel's normal maps, rather than Monique or whatever texture that is. (Breezy, isn't it?) The details are baked into the normals in a way that emphasizes what the underlying morph is doing.
Thanks @vwrangler, I will try with the normals. And yes, that is Breezy
A little more detailed wrinkles with the normals
The normals and bump on Mabel are so significant. Yeah, it's a good morph, but the skin is what makes Mabel look older.
Anyway... 50% Mabel 8, 100% Mabel HD detail dial, 50% Stephanie 8.
This image is using Stephanie 8's skin.
I'll do Mabel 8 skin next...
OK, took a shower while this baked... and here's 50% Mabel 8, 100% Mabel HD details, 50% Stephanie 8.
Same setup. This time, it's Mabel HD skin.
All the detail on the skin is pretty darn good if you want an oldster figure.
That's the most convincing render I've seen using Mabel 8's skin yet.
I'm really not sure what possessed me to buy Mabel. I think the last female pro bundle I bought was Victoria 8.
Wait... maybe it was the fact I got the Pro-Bundle, some add-ons and 3 other ProBundles for $62.
Did I just artificially inflate sales figures for female products? I think I did.
Nothing fancy in the setup. I just wanted a simple thing to show what Mabel 8's skin does, and a comparison to "girl next door" Stephanie was the first thing that came to mind. (Porting the normals from Stephanie to Mabel would help a bunch to make Stephanie older. You could also use Alexandra as an intermediate skin, I suppose.)
I'd show even more of the skin (minus "Canaanite" shawl that was added for modesty purposes), but then I'd have a wee problem with the mods.
That reminds me... I'll have to do a topless render to demonstrate what those parts look like for, uh, scientific purposes.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am male and more than middle age.
Have been involved with DAZ Characters going back to when Victoria 4was brand new, and textures for the character cost about 25 dollars (Jepe)
Daz and I have come a long way since then.
New characters are coming onto the market daily.
After awhile, though, if you notice, they are starting to look alike.
(No problem with that until you realize you are buying the same character over and over.)
Recently there has been a new type charcter, one with age, one with imperfections, one with...character
Mabel is one of those.
My thanks and admiration for the artists responsible for what to me is one of the breakthroughs.
My criticism ,and it is a big one, is the way she is being marketed.
Hag, shrew, aged hooker, come to mind.
Here is a feminine character with a world of potential use.
Historical figures, actual working women, women who are more than swimsuit advertisements.
This is a character that can further open creative minds to greater development and
we give her a broomstick and a green complexion.
As far as the wrinkles and mode of dress is concerned.
She could be portrayed as a woman who got those lines in her face by working worrying and
caring for her family.
Her mode of dress might be from trying to save money, due to an unemployed husband,
or children in school.
It is true that we create our scenes as a form of escapism, but we do place emphasis on "photo-real."
I am attaching an image I made, it is not very good,it is not imaginative it was put together in under 10 min.
But It conveys some of what I am trying to say.
To sum up, I would not like to see characters of this type pigeonholes and relegated to
"for Halloween use only"
Thank you.
great post
the image looks a lot like Faye Dunaway, btw
Yeah, I don't like the "yet another old witch" following Edie 8, but I'm all in favor of toplessness and visible skin... like Deacon215's outfits at Rendo that were appropriate for the Iron/Bronze Ages. I like the historical accuracy with the boobies, but I wouldn't post that kind of shot here.
I kind of don't like all the extreme cover-up outfits in the Mabel 8 bundle, myself. I enjoy human skin :)
OK, lingerie shot for another look at the skin. 34% Mabel 8 HD, 33% Alexandra, 33% Penny blend. (For as much crap as the forum gave Penny 8, she's still clearly top of the class of the generation, IMO.) Some Breast Control dials to push up the girls in the bra. I cut the bump and normal to 50% of the default.
I don't mind either, but there's just something about a septuagenarian in a small bikini that's disturbing...lol. I can't think of too many that I know that could pull it off outside of Hollywood, and maybe not even then....
Laurie
for sure..one piece with a shawl more likely
As a woman over 50 I thank you for this.
Well, some people want to see what the skin looks like, and a bikini is going to do that without offending the mods.
I have much skimpier bikinis, anyway.
Anyone want to see Mabel in a thong?
/kidding! I think...
LMAO!
I will second that..
I'm a man pushing 70. I am thrilled with older characters such as Mabel and Floyd. I've wished desperately for "older" characters to better reflect the type of pictures I want to do. I have mixed reactions to Mabel in a bikini. I haven't totally accepted my "senior citizen" status, or the fact that I won't be in a relationship with a young woman. Most likely the next woman I relate with will be my own age, complete with all "the badges of honor" such as wrinkles, skin blemishes, etc. I easily see the signs of aged beauty and personality in my fellow residents. I just haven't totally come to terms with the fact that I am indeed older. Oh, sorry I'm rambling again. Thank you, Daz, and the creators of Mabel, Floyd, etc, for finally giving 3D Life to Senior Citizens. I hope you make lots of money, and keep up the good work!
I disagree that the Mabel 8 pro characters were portrayed so negatively, there were portrayed with affectionate comedic aknowlegement of their past & present life experiences. Braggarts brag and in contrast the meek humbly tell you about themselves with lighthearted comedic takes on themselves. They want you to have fun in life, not to fall at their feet in some excessively calculated angst at unintentially insulting them. Example, the apolyptic kitchen where Mabel deploys the weapons of choice against high food prices and unhealthy junkfood in aid of her family and friends. I think the younger characters of DAZ could use a dosage of situational comedy.
OK... Thong time!
Same mix... 1/3 Mabel, Alexandra, and Penny.
Ha, just kidding. No thong. More age-appropriate, but not dForce total body coverage clothing.
Some nice slim jeans. Maybe a thong under there.
30 years ago i was dating a girl and she took me home to meet her mother, her wrinkly old ma told me to, "take a good look because this is what she will look like 30 years from now'. i dumped the girl and her ma that very night
the neck is really better than I've seen before in these models
