weight map brush will not paint blue

I've been working on learning how to use dforce better and needed to pin an item.  When I did that I discovered that my weight map brush will no longer paint blue, or anything.  I had run into that the last time I tried to use it and thought I had just gotten a weird item, but not I've tried it with a variety of items.  My process is to select the item, add dforce modifier- dynamic surfacem then create new dforce modifier weight node.  Then in the tool setting pane, with the weight map brush selected and the node selected I add map.  It turns the item red.  Then I attempt to paint it by holding down the left mouse button and dragging it around.  But it does nothing.  Any ideas of what I'm doing wrong or how to fix this?

Are you holding down alt, or setting the brush to paint substractively in the context menu? Reb is a weight-of 1, which is the maximum value, and by default painting adds weight,

Thank you!  I thought I had it set to paint subtract but using alt works, so I guess not.  I only used the weight maps a couple of times when dforce first came out so I could not remember how I used it. Then I kept watching the same tutorial over and over, thinking I had missed some instructions, however I don't think she mentioned the need to hold down the alt key.

I've been following all the tutorials I can find on this, and for the life of me, my brush will not work--will not paint blue nor gray; everything stays red. I tried holding down the alt key to no avail. I am painting by using the left click on my mouse. Is that not correct? I've tried on two separate computers, I've tried on beta and current version, and I just can't get this to work, so I must be missing a step. Here's what I do:

    1. Change mode from Texture to Smooth Shaded
    2. Select clothing item in scene
    3. Select all surfaces. (This continues to be selected.)
    4. Edit > Object > Geometry > Add dForce Modifier: Dynamic Surface
    5. Edit > Object > Geometry > dForce Surface Adjuster (and adjust)
    6. Create > New dForce Modifier Weight Node
    7. Select dForce Modifier Weight Node in Scene tab
    8. In Tool Settings menu, with Influence Weights selected, Add Map
    9. In Paint Brush mode, I try to use left click on my mouse to draw on the clothing item in the viewport, but get absolutely no changes in the red color. Tried alt+left clicking; did not work.

So, what am I doing wrong? What step am I missing?

    Thanks in advance.

Just some guessing maybe something is wrong with the default modifier key settings?

You can check the current modifier key settings in the Window>Workspace>Customize dialogue (F3). At the bottom you will see a tab for the Node Weight Map Brush. There is also this dropdown menu called Mouse Button Modifiers with Substractive Painting in the list. If you choose that the modifier key by default Alt should be displayed behind if not double click the field and press Alt.

You could also try to reset all key settings with pressing the Import button at the bottom of the Customize dialogue and choose Actions, next you can select the "Default Advanced.dsx" file from the list to reset all to default keyboard shortcuts.

You could also try the Fill Selected action found in the viewport right click menu under Weight Editing. It works like a food fill for the selected polygons and you have a slider turn it down to 0% with all surfaces selected. See if the weightmap gets changed to be empty so you can paint on it with the brush.

I reset all key settings and it's working now. Thank you so, so much!!!

Ok I've got a g3 item that I can not add a map to.  I've tried two different methods.  Once I create the deforce modifier the button for map is greyed out and the drop down box is empty.  Is there a work around for this or another step I need to use?

So you have an item with a dForce Modifier applied and a dForce Weight Access node applied? And no map showing as applied?

    Correct.

I'm sorry.  I abandoned it because I could not figure it out.  I'll have to remember what I was trying to work on and pull it back up again.  Maybe sometime this weekend.
