Okay, I covet them both, probably can only get one... normally i'd just get the cheaper one because yeah I'm broke and can only get what i have in coupons/gift cards stored up... but they are both compelling, adorable... Misumi also has an extra shape added in, and that custom smile and hands extra details like that, and she has fiber brows, which I'm fond of using and- I've been wanting a bluejante char for a while and she's great.... on the other hand, the new Yoyo char from a new PA is absolutely bonkers cute as well, comes with many adorable expressions that match her shape... she's less expensive too, no fibermesh brows though....
The choice is killing me... it really is... does anyone have both??? can do a size/shape side by side render? cant remember last time i had such a hard time choosing!!!!!

I would chose Misumi for the HD morphs (separate sliders), and the more realistic look - plus two body shapes; Yoyo seems more styised to me. I do, however, like both.
Misumi is excellent! (as are all of bluejaunte's products). YOYO is something that I have not seen in Daztopia until her. She is the other Manga girl type that Sakura doesn't provide. So, it depends on what your plans are. Misumi is your real girl. YOYO is your idealized girl. Thankfully, I've got them both, but I have a CPU render running; so, I can't put them side-by-side for you.
Misumi without a doubt.
YOYO for the win.
When I got the promomail from DAZ and saw Yoyo the first second, I thought RareStone had a new one again :-). Yoyo looks nice however but I don't have her (yet).
When I buy a character I always look to the quality of the skintexture. If I have my doubts I don't buy, even if it's a nice shape.
I have all the Bluejaunte-characters because I'm a big fan of his style. Sahel is great but her skin is a bit too dark to my taste. Miriam was much better to my opinion, but Misumi... she's awesome, topquality, exactly what I wanted...
There are also several other artists/vendors who make fantastic and high-quality characters. It seems that the competition between these artists is getting harder and harder and that's also good for us customers.
When it comes to the skins, don't forget that you can use other characters skins if you don't like the one that is with a particular character. So if you see a shape that you really like but aren't that fond of the skin, don't let that stop you from getting one you really like
Yes I know about using other character skins on different shapes but that's not what I mean. What I mean is: the skin does me buy. If the character has a good shape, that's great but not most important. I never render characters out of the box (except when I just bought them to test the skintexture) but prefer to morph my own characters or mix the shapes I already have. But I never buy a character special because of its nice shape.
However, I've to say that most vendors bring out nice shapes with their characters too. What's almost necessary, there's a competition going on outside, remember ;-)
They are completely different characters, and it depends on what you are going for. Misumi is stunningly realistic, while YOYO goes the other direction with a somewhat stylized doll like quality.
You want pics, I got pics. On a side note, YOYO is very shiny at default, but she has 4 different options for skin wetness, plus 4 options for skin tones. For these pics I chose the "dry skin" option. All other charcetsr are at the default values. The default HDRI dome is used, so this is as "out of the box" as it gets.
Lets play around and flip them and see what happens!
Poor YOYO looks like she has seen some things. Misumi looks quite different with this skin.
But when talking about cute Asian characters, you have to include Rarestone's masterpieces, Minto and Miya.
Miya on left, Minto on right. Minto is powerfully adorable.
Let's use Minto and Miya skins on Misumi and YOYO.
Now that is interesting. I think the Miya skin on YOYO fits, both characters are very doll like. Minto's skin works on Misumi, too. Misumi seems to have a great face no matter what skin you use, but her character skin is excellent.
Lets switch back to Rarestone's characters. Here are Miya and Minto using YOYO and Misumi skins.
Very interesting! I think YOYO's skin works well on Miya. For this image, I left the YOYO skin at default, and you can see how shiny it is. This is a first time PA, and you can see the eyebrows are also shiny like the rest of the skin. That can be fixed by editing the SSS maps (draken the area where the eyebrows are.) Also, I noticed the eyelashes do not load with the character. You have to apply the lashes yourself, probably an oversite. Otherwise I think it looks good on Miya, it gives her more color. Of course YOYO has 4 skin tones. Meanwhile, on the right Minto looks kind of angry, LOL.
Thank you for posting all of these outrider42. It really shows off what a fantastic sculpt Misumi is! she looks fantastic in every skin. A very intersting bunch of comparisons.
"Poor YOYO looks like she has seen some things" Geez @outrider42, you made me do a spit take of my Southern Comfort
Thank you for pointing out,I will fix it as soon as possiable
Welcome as a Daz PA! Your first character is AWESOME! She's so adorable - well done!! I am very much looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for us! :)
I really haven't seen any Japanese female characters that suite my interests lately. They all suffer the same weird diminished nose and mouth problem, making them look too anime. A lot of the real Japanese women I see do have big noses and lips.
I agree sometime i feel that only Gravureboxing at renderosity gets how asian woman should/can look. I have seen a few exceptions here and there but most of the asian characters are either to styalized, or anime styled or simply are causasian like aiko. Don't get me wrong the characters are prety and i like yoyo and xoxo for what they are, but they are not 'true' asians.
Take Chanmi for example by isourctexture. He/She comes prety close, while a stunning character, i do not see her as being chinese. Sure she hase some asian/chinese blood but not a 'true' chinese woman.
You mean like Rarestone's Minami?
Why does every character have such huge irises? LOL. First thing I do with pretty much EVERY character, PA or DO is shrink the irises. LOL. :P Out of all the images so far, bluejaunte comes the closest with iris size for a normal human ;)
I have a couple of these, and honestly they're all cute. Even the stylized ones. I have been eagerly waiting for a sighting of Lee/Mei Lin tho and hoping they are good.
Laurie
That's so funny, because on most characters, the first thing I do is make the irises larger LOL!
Personally I think Yoyo is cuter and more distinct lookinking (kind of like Minto) but a bit stylized whereas Misumi is much more photorealistic but IMHO, not as cute, more like a real regular person you might not notice walking down the street. I personally don't like the facial morph, but the skin looks very realistic if that's what you're going for and the body seems very realistically sculpted, including realistic human flaws..
For my purposes, I prefer Yoyo because she could be either a fairy, stylized fantasy/sci-fi character or cute innocent or anime-ish pinup whereas Misumi seems like a realistic girl next door character, which I don't need that often. I have enough of both types already but Yoyo has such a dinstinct look, she went right into my wishlist waiting for a better sale. I think she's adorable!
All of Rarestone's characters Pei, Minami, Miya, Minto... they all have this weird mouth pinch that I really don't like. It's distinctive, but I can't say I like it much.
This is an experiment I did with the G2 demo of Facegen (you can still see the blue demo mark LOL) I ended up buying the full version and want to test more with it because I was able to create many interesting ethnic characters. People think she is very realistic when I show it on my phone but I noticed the chest skin doesn't match the face skin! (No one noticed this or the blue mark on her hair on my phone.) But in any case, I think Facegen is great for creating realistic people of all ethnicities...
The pointed chin and large forehead look is too anime on many Japanese figures. Okay if you are doing a stylized character but not particularly, realistic.
thanks for showing both... they are both good in different ways. what a tough decision!!!
Yeah, I used the facegen demo before. If want to use the facegen generated textures, then you'll have to find a face without bangs. And sometimes it's difficult getting the right kind of nose.
NP!
I try.
NP, and welcome to Daz!
I'm just glad to see that Asian characters seem to be gaining popularity. Everything Rarestone makes is getting attention, Misumi is near perfection, and now new PA's are also doing Asians. And other sites have PA's who are making almost exclusively Asian characters. I'm liking this trend and I hope it continues....you hear that Daz???? How's Mei Lin 8 coming along?
Though Misumi is so nice that at this point I don't see how Mei Lin 8 could possibly top her. I have several G8's now and IMO none of them have better skin textures than what BJ is doing (my apologies to those who have made DO 8's, but that is my opinion.) My one and only suggestion to BJ might be to add an option that reduces the darkness under their eyes. It seems to be a common theme for BJ's characters that the areas under their eyes are fairly dark. While that is within realism, I think it would be nice to have an option to turn that down. If I get a chance, I may dig into Misumi's textures and post a render using some altered textures.
FaceGen is nice, and you can adjust the nose some right inside the FG app itself. The app has a cool morphing tool where you can directly push and pull areas of the face by clicking your mouse on it. Keep in mind that FG does not have an 'undo' button, so it is possible to mess up and not know how to go back. When done, you can further shape in Daz. Rarestone's massive 200 face morph collection is fantastic for all sorts of shaping options you don't see in most sets. And of course there are dedicated Asian shapes as has been pointed out.
I did this with FaceGen, and I barely changed anything to what FG made before rendering this. I do want to go back and work on the textures a bit, but the shape is OK.
I would love to see these types of faces done by the pro s. It's so hard to get the folds on the eyes !
There is something offputting for me from Gravureboxing characters, but yeah overall those characters from different ethnicities look more or less believable.
and what do you think on characters by dyys3d?
Several of DYYS3D's characters use Facegen made textures. I forget which ones, but you can spot them looking at the model page. So while they have nice faces, their body textures are pretty much the same, and might even have the same moles. Also, those FG assisted models tend to have blurry eyebrows, and few material options. Look for the ones with only one eye texture. So that's generally how to tell which ones are. You can also spot a FG texture by the distinct black marks FG seems to leave around the corners of lips, and of course, many times they will share the same base torso/arm/leg mats just tinted to match the face, thus how their bodies would look the same.
I don't have a problem with it if they sell models with FG textures, they are much cheaper than most. If they were like full price I would say no. And like I said, they also have models that are not FG textures. And to be honest, I think they do look a little better than Gravureboxing's models.
The look ok though they rate from good to bad. (Only looking at the shape)
Yu Lin looks realy good in terms of head shape and eyes but Liu Ling doesnt look very asian to me i would say asian mother and western father kinda mix.
