Trouble useing Iray

I am starting to use Iray and having a problem.  My renders are grainy and not to clear I tried to watch the tutorial but it runs to fast and can't see it very well so it's useless. Help sad

First off, what are your computer specs? Depending on how complex your scene is, Iray takes awhile to clear up, it's not an instant process.

This happens whens it's finshes( I think,I dont' know Iray at all) but the  PC spece are :Amd Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Proscessor 3.00Ghz

    RAM 5.00GB

    64 bit OS

It's a bit old but does ok

For one thing, 5GB of ram is way too low and will hardly be enough to run your OS. I would think you need double, or even treble that, to run Studio efficiently.

For Iray your graphics card is very important. If you have an nVidia graphics card then Iray can use the GPU for rendering. If you have a different brand card then it will only use the CPU which is usually not as fast. If you do have an nVidia card the amount of video memory on the card determines how complex a scene it can render and the number of cuda cores determines how fast.

Iray will continue to improve the quality of the render until it reaches one of it's limits, basically either quality or time. If your renders are running for about 2 hours and stopping you are probably hitting the default time limit. You can increase this in the settings.

I've rendered on my old laptop (Intel dual core with 6gb of ram), but renders took FOREVER. You might want to think about upgrading your equipment if this is a hobby you want to get into (if you're dead set against using Iray, that is). If you don't mind slightly less realism, then you might consider 3delight, which is the other render engine in DS. It will still take awhile to render because your specs are low, but it's more forgiving than Iray is. I do agree with everyone else tho that your specs are so low that you're going to have a tough time running DS no matter what render engine you use. 5gb system ram is almost bare minimum for ANYTHING on a PC these days.

We're sorry to be the bearers of bad news :(. We've all been there. I know I have....lol. Took me awhile until I got a decent computer. Now I have more than one decent computer thank goodness, but I was scraping by on a real crap computer for a long, long, long time. Used to be a Poser user too tho and Firefly was much easier on lower specs then than DS is now.

...If you are rendering on the CPU both core count and memory are important.  During the process you have to keep the Daz programme and scene open which also takes system memory So lets say you have a scene that's 3 GB in size that means 3 GB of your available memory is taken up before the render process begins (most likely leaving you with only 1 GB for rendering as Windows and system utilities usually take about 1 GB as well).  When this happens, the process defaults to the Virtual Memory partition on your HDD which is even slower.  This happens to me on more often than not and I have 12 GB of memory (I tend to create very large detailed scenes).

As mentioned, Iray is more suited for GPU than CPU rendering.  The catch here is having enough VRAM to contain the scene while rendering. 4 GB is bare minimum, 6 GB is better if you don't do very involved scenes, 8 GB is optimal.  Should the Iray render file exceeds available VRAM it will dump to the CPU and system memory, so again a decent CPU and amount of memory is more desirable.

For a system memory upgrade, I would recommend 16 GB if the MB supports it.

What are the exact specs for your system (CPU & Graphics, & OS)?
