PROJECT EYEray
Hello.
Has anyone used this product and can I get a bit of information on just exactly how it works: https://www.daz3d.com/project-eyeray-next-gen-and-merchant-resource-for-genesis-8
It comes with very very little information on how it operates and what random poking around I've done produces no results. Trying to swith to Project EYEray UVs always produces an error message. I'm just confused and am open to any information that happens to come my way. **bear in mind I lack an understanding of "tech" vocabulary, so please be patient if I fail to grasp concepts that might be very well known to others more fluent in tech speak.
Thanks in advance for any help any of you out there care to offer.
Have a great day
Randall

What I've found is that it's much easier to use the product if you go to it's folder in Content Library, rather than trying to use Smart Content. In the Library it's organized by folders, you start in the first folder, pick which one you want in it, then move to folder 2, pick from that one, then folder 3, etc.
The materials use the "newer" methods for achieving the look of SSS. If you're eyes are disappearing, use the option to switch (I forget what it is) or make sure there is something for the eye surfaces to reflect (try turning on Show Dome in your Environment tab of the your render settings).
But yes, the change U/V's option always errors. If you apply one of the materials, I think it already does this anyway... but someone really ought to fix that file and issue an update (hint, hint, hint).
i just bought the G3 version...all i did was go into smart content ...clicked what I wanted and rendered. Is there more to it?
This is an iray bug with chromatic SSS. The first solution is to render with the dome on. The second is to turn chromatic SSS to mono (though this will affect the way it renders a lot-- this preset is included with EYERay). The third is to adjust the Scattering Measurement Distance a little. I think upping it to .025 on the sclera, iris and pupils does it. I made a material preset that does only that if you don't want to do it manually.

Thanks dragotx, evilded777, daveso, ChangelingChick for your responses; one thing that is mentioned a few times is using the Dome "On" settings and this I haven't tried as I do "studio" type lighting and the dome has its own light that interferes, but I'll give it a shot just to see if it works for me.
DRAGOTX:
Thanks for the suggestion: Perhaps its the way Daz Downloader installed, but I haven't any folders in Content Library or Smart Content so it all appears rather random when trying to decide what one is supposed to choose; it starts with some "hover-over" information like "choose only one base" but none of the content is marked as "Base" so I pick the ones that don't have the + sign next to them. Perhaps I'll try a re-install of the product and see is I get new results.
EVILDED777:
Thanks: is there some alternative to making the eye reflect something other that the dome? (as stated above, the dome light interferes with the spotlights) PS: cool website links
CHANGELINGCHICK:
Thanks: I am going to assume chromatic SSS and the Scattering Measurement Distance are found under the Surfaces tab and I will try this out (I'll also download your material preset as it seems that will save me some time in the future when fiddling around with this)
Again, thanks for all the suggestions! I'll see what I can come up with.

@RS-S
If you install with DIM, the path will be People>Genesis 8 Femal>Materials>DimensionTheory>Project EYEray Next Gen.
I've attached a screen shot.
About the dome: If you turn Draw Dome: On, but set the Environment Intensity to 0, you will get a black background, but you will fix the Chromatic issues with the eyes. Your studio lighting will control the scene.
Example attached. Environment Intensity 0, Draw Dome On, single spot. no attempt at optimal lighting (spot aligned with camera).
The Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 versions are significantly different.
FASTBIKE 1:
Many many thanks for the screenshots and the (unknown to me) tip about Enviroment Intensity; it took me a minute (okay, many) to figure out where the folders were, I never load my content that way unless it's third party. Everything you've shared here has been extremely beneficial and I have the product up and functioning. So, Kudos to you and thanks to everyone for the generous input.
