DAZ taking forever changing tabs

Greets -

Anyone have any clue as to why DAZ might be taking such a long time changing between tabs (minutes)... from Render to Lights, for instance? Anything one can do to optimize workspace settings to avoid or reduce this?

Thank you.

I guess that you probably mean in Studio, Daz Studio, DS ?.   Daz is the Company.

Yes, but I doubt I'm the first person here to refer conversationally to the application as DAZ. Thanks for all your help.

I've had a bad antivirus software update mess with Daz Studio momentarily until it was fixed (the av update, that is). Could it be something like that? How old (or new) are your gfx card drivers?

I doubt it on the virus software, but the computer is about 6 months old.

I couldn't believe it was my av either...lol (Malwarebytes Premium), but it was.

Have you installed anything new lately, uninstalled anything? Have you tried reinstalling DS over top of your current install? What version of DS are you running? What's the newest script/plugin that you're running? Things such as this can have an affect on any piece of software on your computer. If, for instance, you are trying to run something in an older version of DS that was made for a newer version of DS, it can effect performance.

Well, I am running MWB. Is there a way to disable it temporily to test? I just recently updated DS, but it was doing it before that.

You can quit malwarebytes from the system tray (if you're on Windows), but I would suggest you stay off of the internet until you restart it ;).

It seems to be the worst when there's content in the workspace. Disabling MWB has no discernible effect.

What kind of content? A large set? How much ram do you have? Do you install your content thru DIM or Connect? Are you using Iray preview for the active view? There are just so many variables. The plain simple fact is that it shouldn't be running that slow. If it were me I'd try installing over the current install. If that doesn't help I'd uninstall DS and then reinstall it.

My DAZ Studio 4.10.x is like that and it's the way the DAZ Studio event loop is programmed. The developers of DAZ Studio have as one of their list of bug fixes in DAZ Studio refactoring the code for this problem so I will be happy when those fixes are released in DAZ Studio 4.11.x. I guess it will take a lot of testing though before we see that as beta release. sad

I believe I am using Iray preview, but are there any other options if using Iray? Might indeed be a RAM issue.

    Most people use Texture Shaded

I'm using texture shaded, in fact. Must be memory related.

Things that I KNOW for a fact that slow down DS are: using Iray active preview, using strand based hair on an animal, large and detailed sets (but less likely as DS handles many polygons very well), large groups of dressed figures in one scene....

If system memory is exceeded by the scene in DS, then it's going to go to swap space......the virtual 'memory' allocated onto your primary hard drive.  This can slow EVERYTHING to a crawl.

I'd definitely check into memory issues first.  If your GPU drivers are up-to-date, your OpenGL viewport (i.e., Texture Shaded, not Iray Preview) should handle things pretty well....What GPU (video card) are you using?

    Not necessarily.

One thing you haven't been asked to check is your performance/optimisation settings in Edit>Preferences>Interface tab. Also, do you have a selection-aware content pane open in the tab you are switching to (Smart Content with Filter by Selection set, or a Presets tab in a parameter pane)?
