Does aguja’s tail work on g8m?

Would someone who bought today’s mermaid please try to see whether the tail works (easily) on g8m.

    It's geografts, so probably not.

Darn it.  Thanks for the info.

Just tested this... It does mostly work on G8M, however, you need to load it without G8M selected, and then "parent it in place" (do not autofit!), and the Bodywebbing is rather uncooperative... I don't know what it needs parenting to - in the female version it's parented to the top level. Ah well.

The gills can be applied with "fit to" without loss of functionality.

In addition, the stomach area needs a bit of shaping tab love on the G8M side of things.

In any case, once you parented everything in place, the G8M Mermaid also takes the pose set.

That looks great @BeeMKay  Thank you for trying it out.  I just got the mermaid and hope to try it out later today.  Very good news indeed :)

I wish we could get merman stuff :(

If (when?) they come out with a Cross-Figure Resource kit like Genesis 2 & 3, it will be super easy. Would be. Could be.

I tried to put the tail on g8m but was unsuccessful.  I guess I need a step by step or, yeah, I may need to wait for a product that will allow the tail to be easily used on G8M.  Or, perhaps someone will release a tail meant for G8M, that would be awesome.

Looking at BeeMkay's post, it should be pretty straightforward to do. I don't have it, so I can't help with it, but I have parented other tails to G8 with no problem before and since this one is for G8F it should line up pretty close with little tweaking.

I tried again, and it is better.  There are some artifacts on the stomach area (I guess from the geoshell) and the backside isn't fully covered (I may need to scale the tail a bit wider), but I think I can get there.

Cross figure for Genesis 3 did not transfer geografts, only clothing. Cross figure for Genesis 2 could transfer geografts, but that was because G2F/G2M was the same mesh, whereas G3F/G3M and G8F/G8M have different meshes for each gender.

One option to use the Mermail tail as a geograft for a man is to morph the G8F figure into a male figure.

I guess I never tried it on Genesis 3 geografts. They just love making things incompatible in new ways.

The tail is too busy for my tastes.

Sickleyield mentions she has a male tail in the texturing phase. So you may want to buy a male tail from her.

I'm glad that there is a new mertail for the Genesis 8 line, but I find it to be too "busy" for a better word ;) All those spikey things sticking out isn't really my speed. If I could hide them then I might get it, otherwise...

Edit: just noticed that Serene Night used the same term to describe it...lol. I guess maybe I'll use "slightly overdone" then ;). Hehe.

You don't have to use the tail accessories like the antennae and the extra fins.

Still on the fence: unless I know there will be one for the gents, I'm apprehensive. The fact that it's a geograft rather than a conformer is a factor as well...

I'll have to think on it :).

Well, the "busy" tail is what drew me to this and made me buy it despite it being G8. So... :-) And if SY is working on a male version texturing, then I might even buy that, despite it being G8. :-)

Anyway, I can create a small tutorial, if enough people are interested.

The parenting is pretty straightforward - just load the female version and check out what goes where. Parent in place. Hide the male body parts that won't work in the scene tab.

Bee, like you, the busyness attracted me. I posted an image I did in one of the Aguja commercial threads. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/3742496/#Comment_3742496

Oh yay, that is awesome news.  Thank you!

In the render I'm working on using aguja's tail, I took off the tentacles and such.

Okay... here we go (and I accidently used G3M for this... except for the last couple of images where i switched over everything to G8M).

Step 1: Load your G8M (or G3M) into the scene. Go to the scene tab and unselect the character (click somewher else in the scentab so that it looks like in the image).

Step 2: Load the tail into the scene. It is important that you use this way, because when using Autofit, all the bones in the tail will be lost (no more movement).

Step 3: Select the tail in the scene tab.

Step 4: Right Click. From the menu, selct "Change Parent"

Step 5: In the Menu that pups up, make sure that "Parent in place" is selected, then use the scrollbar to scroll up until you fine Genesis 8 Male (or in this case, Genesis 3 Male).

Step 6: Select the hip bone. Then click "Accept".

Step 7: Go back to the Scene tab and open the bone structure of Genesis 8 Male (or G3M)

Step 8: Click on the small eye symbol in front of every bone that needs hiding (not all bones shown here).

Step 9: this hides the legs. For the next step, select the Mertail in the scene tab.

Step 10: With the mertail selected, load the fins and antenna. They will automatically parent correctly to the tail.

Then, select Genesis 8 male to load the gills.

Step 11: With G8M selected, load the gills. You can go through the autofit here, as the gills have no bones. The morphs will work fine.

EDIT: The same goes for the bodywebbing (thank you to @Arki for the hint), they can simply be autofitted the same way as the gills.

Step 12: If the gills descened too far into the body, you can use the "expand all" option for fitting.

Step 13: With Genesis 8 Male selected in the scene tab, apply the Geoshell.

Step 14: When the geoshell loads, it will show transparent legs. These need to be switched off. In the scene tab, select the Geoshell.

Step 14: Go to the parameter tab. Go to the "shell" section of the tab. From the list, turn everything "off" that belongs to the legs. Scrolöl down to the bottom of the list, as everythings ordered alphabethically.

    The result:

Step 15: Applying the mermaid poses (this is done on G8M)

First, apply the "overall" pose. This will mostly work, except for the stomach area.

Go to the scene tab and select the mertail.

From the poses, go to the "Top Half" poses. Select the matching pose for your pose set and apply it. This will correct the stomach position.

    Enjoy. :-)

(PS: This is a beatiful set, well thought out. Definietly worth the buy! Thank you to all the PAs involved! heart

And I'm looking forward to the male fishtails! smiley)

Also, Arki gave information on hiding and smoothing in her official thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/3741441/#Comment_3741441
