I've only ever had problems with pitbull and rottweilers in the line of duty. In this state that are considered vicious animals and are required to be leashed at all times and you have to carry liability insurance on them in case they do bite. I've known people who have both breeds and they are the most friendly dogs on the planet. Like I said it all depends on the owner. These two breeds are all to often used for dog fighting which means they were raised to be vicious, but in some cases they have been trained after the fact to be a good pet. They tend to forewarn to not have it around children though. We have a blue healer now and this dog will lick an intruder to death.

It goes back and forth in this house whose domain it is. We have a lot of cat vs. dog and who gets the attention most.

My previous dogs were sisters/litter mates and were 1/2 English Bull, 1/4 Schnauzer, ad 1/4 Poodle and could not have looked more different from each other.  No, they were not small dogs, but neither were they large.  At 40 pounds, they were a wonderfully convenient medium size.  I said convenient, because after one suffered through degenerative disc disease, she had quite a number of issues including paralysis so her smaller size and weight allowed her to be carried as needed.

So while I would love more smaller dog morphs, I would also request more medium size or a morph package to more easily attain individual personalizations.

I kinda like muts too. Not everyone wants a purebred dog and they tend to be overbred. Sometimes a mixed breed is where it’s at.

Mine's a blue healer and pointer. Would be a great hunting dog if she wasn't afraid of the slightest little pop. This time of yr is horrible. People shooting fireworks really freaks her out and she spends the whole day shaking and panting and we can't calm her down.

Agreed. I nearly killed a pitbull 3 years ago that attcked my GF and myself in the middle of the day in a nice subdivision while riding our bikes minding our own business. If it wasn't for the owner running into the street screaming he would be dead. I have a friend and an employee that both have one and they are mild mannered and well behaved, but like you said, it's in their genetics, so why tempt fate. There was a story last week where the familiy pet, a pitbull raised in the house killed a toddler in the living room that was just playing like he always did, people just won't learn.

Lotta fatalities in the past few years by a lot of pit bulls https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_dog_attacks_in_the_United_States

Ugh, small breeds are mean if left to their own devices. I know people like their dogs and cats but when my mom's jack russel died a few years back I was not upset except that I hoped it didn't suffer like all the tortoises it brainlessly attacked and I would confisticate those tutles to take to my yard when I was lucky enough to catch it. My good friends from high school keep many pitbulls for many years and still do and are all the time talking how 1st rate friendly and loyal they are. And they are; when you have very stringent owners that treat their neighbors with respect and dogs like work animals, even when trained to be companion pets, because dogs are not to be left to act like wolves.

However, the new Dog 8 & such are nice though to get back on topic more suitable to 3D rendering.

I always say  there isn't such a think as a bad breed of dog, but there are a great many bad dog owners.  Vicious dogs are trained to be vicious, or have cruel owners who beat them, which will also turn a dog vicious.

Awwwwwwww, that makes me very sad to hear that Frank.  They do have cannabis drops for dogs and cats now that helps with nervousness.  A friend of mine adopted a German and she had a brother with allot of neurological issues so CeCe, she's got a HUGE heart, adopted him and found that using the cannabis on him a couple of times a day really helped his nervous issues and his seizures.  He's a pretty happy dog now!

Our one friend has a dog who they put on Prozac. I think it's funny as hell but I guess it does help.

There is in fact nothing special about ‘pit bull genetics.’ The breed isn’t narrowly defined.

Also most of the hysteria about pit bulls is, well, hysteria; historically people have gone through periods where different breeds are feared.

The whole ‘locking jaws’ thing? Urban legend.

Basically, any dog can be dangerous if poorly treated, and larger breeds are more dangerous mainly because they are bigger.

I tend to prefer dogs to a lot of people. Dogs haven’t gotten anything on vicious and mean humans at times. crying

I'd like a Yorkie too, and I'd love a Lhasa Apso but I doubt that'll ever happen.

I am a big into animal rescue. Where I got my pet, they specifically rescue older senior dogs especially those whose owners due to age or illnesses can no longer care for them, I hope someday when I am retired to do more rescue work or open a small animal shelter for senior dogs.

We got our from the ASPCA in Texas when we were on vacation one year visiting my in-laws. She came from an abused home and was the runt of the litter. We immediately feel in love with her and was so playful with the kids while we were checking her out. It was an immediate buy and one not regretted.

...never was a fan of hyper little yippy ankle biters, but then that's just me.

  • Serene NightSerene Night Posts: 17,704

My dog is small but not yippy. Most larger dogs bark much more than she does.

  • Exactly.

This is exactly why we need a little yappy Pomeranian.

To go with the Barbie dolls in the exotic sports cars and giant Range Rovers. We must have yappy Poms.

The French Bulldog will do for now.

..where I live that is about all people have. As I have bad arthritis I really don't appreciate it when they get around my feet and keep yapping at me.

My first Mother in Law had a dog a bit like that.  M-I-L  was out one day after doing the washing and it started raining.  Next door neighbour decided to helpfully get the washing in off the line and pop it inside  (friendly area, one often popped to the shops or such without bothering to lock up).   M-I-L got back to find her neighbour sitting in her arm chair being watched by the Boxer dog who had let the neighbour come in,  but wasn't about to let her go out again.
