Is there an iray Skydome that does forests or jungles?
in The Commons
All I have so far is a garden with one of those planes (one straight, one curved)
And VERY FAR forests - which really, are plains with a forest super far in the distance.
I hate those backdrop products, where it's a Sears Photography backdrop. I bought a bunch of those when I first started using Daz and they never worked and I am still scarred from that experience.

I'm looking for something that can do a close forest. I have the jungle construction kit AND a...um...um...the garden one that has vegetation as part of the set...
But I'd like a true iray skydome that places us in the middle of a jungle set, close jungle AND NOT a jungle on the horizon. Any ideas?

Skydomes are primarly visible horizon or sky image. Not understanding what your trying to achieve. Construction kits, can create the style of forest you desire, add figures, objects, etc... then lighting. Or you can add a jungle image of your choice to Environment backdrop, build to backdrop. If you do not desire to build forest from kit, you can purchase a ready made foreset such as Through the woods by Stonemason, use HDRI lighting. .
Well, the thing is, when you make the trees yourself, you have to go DEEP with the dense forestation or else you see some trees and then this huge flat landscape.
Or mountains...I want to show a far shot, but not an open field.
I ended using both a cluser of trees AND a fake billboard backdrop.

The solution would be a circular backdrop that wraps around the scene. Those are availbale as "backdrops" but they are SMALL and apparently designed to sit behind a few people or a small scene.
I'm asking about something on a much bigger scale that can handle WIDE shots.
I know there are forest HDRI in the store. Don't know how they'd handle wide shots.
DM have a Mezoamerican set with a jungle skydome... Just cut it in half to let a Distant Light through.
Maybe Terradome can do it. Terradome plus an instancing product for foliage. Maybe there a Terradome product for forests. IDK.
Good ideas. I think you were right and I'll have to do it manually and just add enough trees or even vegetation/bushes to give the look of a jungle. Maybe even render without the Dome and add a generic forest last layer backing.
My first thought would be TreeScapes backdrops by ImagineX as it comes in three sizes, as well as both curved and straight, also comes as mountains and city scapes. Not sure if those are too small for what you have in mind though.
That's what I used. It was too small so I put real 3D trees in front of it. I also dumped the .jpg into photoshop and gave it more of a nightime color balance.'It worked out okay. Thanks all.
.
Bless you, sir. That will be a life saver as I want to do extensive, deep in the woods work.
Thank you greatly.
I've tried a few of those scenes and it's pretty hard to get without instancing a ton of trees. I try to use a backdrop but something just doesn't give me the impression of really dense.
You could make your own skydome.
Set up an environment with loads of instanced low rez trees off in the distance (ultrascatter is your friend). Use a spherical camera.
Once done, there you go; it's not a proper HDR or anything, but it's a backdrop suitable for skydomes.

if you cleared out the center blocks you would have a 360 treelined environment (more forest than jungle).
You could probable push the 8 sections together to get rid of the roads.
Great ideas, thank you both :)
came across this site on another thread and there's a lot of great free HDRIs might be what your looking for with several sizes of each just tried one myself a mossy forest with one of my locals created by AM a Tasmanian Devil and because of his size did a close up and the quality of this HDRI very nice the site is https://hdrihaven.com/
and if you wanna thank the other dazite that had a thread telling about this site https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/253731/free-quality-hdris#latest

Something there might work for you, maybe Topanga Forest B from the first group?
https://hdrihaven.com/hdris/category/?c=nature&o=popular
Maybe one of these? Maybe Blue Grotto? Mossy Forest? River Walk 1, Crystal Falls, Monk's Forest....just a couple I noticed quickly scanning thru.
All the above are free btw.
How well does this work in Studio? I've never looked at it closely, because the product page says it's for Poser only.
Back on topic, you could also add billboard trees for intermediate use, between a row of instanced trees and a backdrop, to reduce the load on resources.
I'm not at my daz machine but I recall to use the skydome, you have to change it to an emitted and put the color layer in the emiter color. (The term "color" is wrong but I can't remember what the proper term is.)
The prehistoric hdri is not a dense forested hdri but it might work.
Just seconding the HDRI Haven plug. I've been using these a lot.
You can do the 'Pines Beach' trick where you have a ground plane in the foreground, which will block out part of the HDRI sphere to help with ground shadows and such, but then you'll need to pick the right foreground feature. you can also use various HDRIs as the skydome with Skydome products, but this can be a bit of trial and error. The nice thing about HDRIs is that the 'natural' lighting is simulated rather nicely, at least in Iray (I haven't explored this with 3Delight yet).
not actually forests and jungle but this hdri set from MEC4D has a few interesting ones https://www.daz3d.com/mec4d-hdri-gardens-vol-1-megapack on the sale page she also has some 360 video views to view and a video of her product
@Griffin Avid
If you have Terradome 3 and Forest PrimeEvil 1 I can send you the Scene Subset for this scene.
It is all the plants from that bundle as a group and I used Ultra Scatter at 5000 for the base and 3000 for the hills. If you have Ultra Scatter you can change the settings to suit.
Hi is there any way I could get that to?
Yes sir I have terradome 3! Bless you. You know what, I used it when I first got Daz and I remember it taking forever AND it looked TOO REALISTIC!
Now, with a more powerful system and a little more experience, I am willing to dive in on that beast again.
Let's do it!!!!!!
Here is the scene. Right click on the link and use Save Linked Content As and save it to your library.

Thank you
Not a jungle but a forest hdri is included in this one: https://www.daz3d.com/iradiance-hdri-variety-pack-three
Semi-transparent jungle backdrops are included Asian River and Missing Jet. I use the Asian River one often as a backdrop to the Jungle Construction Kit.
That's a great tip off. Thanks.
I do own the Asian River.
