I'm late to Genesis 8! I believe previous Genesis generations required the Body & Head Morph packages for many characters to work. I can't see any info about this with the Genesis 8 characters. I very much appreciate your help!

For many characters, yes, they are probably needed and something you should have anyway just in case. Used to be the majority of characters used them, but more and more custom morphs are used

It should say under the required products section whether you need them or not.

FSMCDesigns, I just bought the Head Morphs package today, just in case. I'll probably get the Body morphs package next month. Gotta spread the expenses. I just didn't know if I missed something?

  • No, not unless the figure says that you need them.

If you're content to use models as they are, or in combinations (like 50% Girl 8, 50% Penny 8), then there's no need to buy the Head/Body Morphs.

The Daz base models don't need the morphs. A lot of Vendors also bake in everything that you need.

Some figures do need the morphs... check out the "Required Products" section. (I think that the way the license is, if you use a Daz dial, you're not supposed to embed it in the figure morph. It needs to be separate.)

For me? I think they are required. I can't do Daz without those morphs.

Thank you so much for the clarification. Apparently most of the Genesis 8 male characters I saw didn't need those morph packages. I'll likely get all of them just in case.

Even if the characters in the store don't "require" those morph packs, they are excellent for customizing the stock characters to your own liking. Make them heavier, taller or shorter, etc. Change their facial features, too.

barbult. thanks for your input. In my younger days, I fiddled with characters a lot. Now I'm older and lazier. I will, however get all the morph packs. I'll likely spread the purchases over the summer.

Look at it this way Ron, even if you don't purchase any new characters, with the DAZ head and body morphs you can create your own. Check out  the Simtenero Randomizer in the store. It takes any or all the morphs you have installed and creates random characters with them. The results can be pretty great at times. I usually only purchase characters for the skin and occasionally the head, never for the body morphs.

I would consider them essential, unless basically you're happy with how other folks think a character should look. :)

I would add the 200 plus morphs by Zev0, to the list of essentials; I make my own morphs a lot, but all those are well made, have all sorts of helper morphs built in.

nicstt, yeah, Xev0 makes lots of great stuff!

Don't forget there are also base Expressions sets for G8F and G8M, matching the Head and Body Morphs, which you might want to get as well. Not everyone likes the pure expression poses (G8 expressions don't use morphs, they pose the facial bones) but they mix well, and they give good starting points for mix-your-own settings.
