Misleading promos

I just purchased https://www.daz3d.com/dark-sin-outfit-and-weapons-for-genesis-8-females thinking the wings were included since they are in almost all of the promos, unfortunately they are not which is dissapointing, still a great outfit but misleading I should have glanced at the included outfit parts

While I agree the wings are showcasd in 6 of the promo images and that makes it seem like they might be included, always look at what is included since a promo is meant to make you want to buy the product and there are almost always items in the promo that are not included.

That's why I make sure I read the "What's Included and Features" list.

There's been times I thought a product was an outfit when it turned out to be a collection of poses, or possibly conforming items when it was really just a set of add-on textures.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

Looks like they went into alot of detail in the "Whats included" section, so should not have been too misleading

  • Yeah, I've made it a habit of assuming nothing comes with a product that's in the pictures, lol, and read the discription, and the list of stuff included. Also looking at the untextured pictures helps a lot too, for seeing what you're actually buying, because I've never seen those have something not included in them.

I think those wings are these, https://www.daz3d.com/morning-star-wings-for-genesis-3-and-8-female-s , I've had them on my wishlist for a bit now, just haven't pulled the trigger on them yet.

Yes i often jump to the untextured picture to get a quick visual of whats included lol. Glad im not the only one :D

but..this is brought up over and over and over and over. It is apparent to many that the promos need to reflect ONLY what is included in the package or directly stated that certain things are NOT included.
One would think DAZ would figure this out someday, but not so far. PICTURES are worth 1000 words or something.

Promo renders are always meant to be inspirational / aspirational — I don't think they're intended to be misleading...

There's a formula that nearly every product follows: one of the promo pictures (usually the last one) contains an untextured view of the actual product, and the "What's Included and Features" below the promo renders always lists all the items that are included in the product for sale.

That said, I'd love to know which set of wings (and which texture set) that is!

I wish more PA's would list the additonal products used in promos in order of appearance, either in the Notes or "You may also be interested in the following product(s)" section...

I think promos should be set up in a way, that the cover/first promoi image is what we typically see (an artistic render making use of the product) but following images should be showing just what's included (various lighting of the product, different angles, clay renders, etc.)

While yes, I agree it is listed, the majority of people look and don't read. They shop with their eyes.

  • Always, always, always thoroughly read the product description before purchasing. Promo pics can pique your interest, but you should always rely on the written description before you decide to make any purchase.

I know my fault for not reading what was not included not trying to discourage from buying the outfit either it is still good

While I always check to make sure I know exactly what is in a product, this one did strike me as more confusing than what I normally do see. As others have mentioned, the wings are in many of the promos. If they were only in one, I wouldn't have thought it was included. But I did think they were included until I read the description. It is true that you shouldn't assume everything pictured in a promo is included, but it is also customary for those things not included not to make it into multiple promos (and if they are, I generally see a disclaimer on the promo itself).

DAZ does have a generous refund policy, but sometimes it can be a real pain if the one item that you mistakenly bought had triggered timed discounts on other items in the cart that would no longer be discounted without the mistakenly bought item, and you can't just reload your cart with something else because by the time you realize your mistake, the promo is over.

Also, probably many of us have bought items that we don't necessary use or render within 30 days, the window for refunds.

I'm not particularly upset about this or anything, but I do think the people who are have a point here that can't just be summarily dismissed.

I can use the same piece of clothing in multiple promos, doesn't mean that it's included. That line of reasoning is faulty.

Depends on the product. When you are selling a character, unless you're new to the site, you know that clothing isn't included (and when it is, it is usually delineated in the product title, such as Amy and Her Outfit, or whatever). However, when you're selling an outfit, and wings can sometimes come with an outfit, that becomes a lot harder to figure out.

the clay render at the end should be required, imo

    Wanted also to add:

Just because many of us are used to how DAZ and its products are sold and packaged doesn't mean people who complain don't have a point.

Certainly took me awhile to understand that characters don't come with anything but their birthday suits. Elsewhere, when people refer to character design, that usually includes the person, hair, clothing, and accessories. That's not how things work here, but that knowledge comes from experience, not intuition. And even I, who I consider an expert shopper (or at least a super frequent shopper), was fooled by this one initially.

While I don't think this is some kind of egregious consumer rights or false advertising violation, I do get put off by responses to valid complaints that are essentially, "read or return, duh."

It doesn't. Always look at the what's included section because that ALWAYS tells you what's in the product. Promos aren't the final word, neither is the title. Advocating "inferring" from pictures only teaches users bad habits when looking at products in the store. Also promo rules now state that text is **discouraged** from the pics (so any portion of the promo can be used in the daily promotions without worrying about getting rid of the text) so the "what's included" is your ONLY real way of knowing what's in a product.

Also in the case of the product referred in the OP's post, the "What's included" section is extensive and not only list what's included but morphs included on those items. I can't see people getting confused with wings when wings are not listed anywhere in that huge section.

Just because there are customer best practices doesn't mean there shouldn't be seller best practices. If using text is discouraged from the promos, then a seller should also think of how a customer might perceive the promos. The customer isn't always right, but they also aren't always wrong--or at least, I could see how this particular promo could have fooled someone, even if I myself always check the description. I don't have a problem with the vast majority of product promos. But, if you can't see how this particular instance could have been confusing to customers, then I don't know what more to say.

I agree but also if such concerns are to be listened to then  cries of the sue them and send in laywers isn't going to get anything heard.

It is nevertheless still possible to respond to the merits of the complaint instead of going to the other extreme with "move along, nothing to see here." Especially since I think there is something to see here.
