Copying Parameters and Pasting them to a new object

Is there a way to copy the X, Y, Z and their rotational values as well, and paste them to a different object in the scene? For example, let's say I have a spoon parented to a figure's hand---now I want to replace it with a fork. Thanks in advance!

Yes, just select them with the mouse with ctrl pressed, then right click on one and select Copy > Copy Selected items. Then select the object you want to transfer them to, right click on one of its parameters, and select Paste to Selected items.

Selection doesn't work very well though, there's no multiselect so you have to click on each one, and often they select/deselect just you move the mouse pointer over them.

Hm, just discovered that you can actually multiselect them just be pressing ctrl, clicking on one and then move the mouse pointer slowly down or up to select multiple. I've always though the way it behaved here was sort of a bug, but maybe it's actually a feature - a different way of multiselecting. Doesn't work very well if you want to select random parameters though.

BTW, another smart feature - press alt when you drag an object into the scene, then you can place it where you want.

BTW2, some objects do not have XYX Translate set to 0 when you load them even if they load at 0.0.0. in the scene. Not sure what's going on here but in any case it can be unpredictable what happens when you copy/paste from/to such objects.

Maybe you can help with this. I have a character skin and when i apply the 3rd party gens geoshell to the figure there is a script that copies the base texture over to the geoshell and normally it works perfectly, but not with this characters settings. I have even tried straight copy and pasting, but there are some new custom shader slots that won't copy over. Any ideas?

Hm, sorry, no idea what can be causing this.

I was just thinking, what happens if you create a geoshell for the whole figure and then apply the character's texture to that? Do the custom shaders copy over here?

Find out what the differences are, then see if you need to turn off limits; failing that, save the 'weird' setting as a shader, then load where requred but hold down CTRL whilst loading it so you don't replace textures, then adjust those (if any) that need it.

Just tried this and no, it doesn't copy over correctly/completely. The character is Chloe from Second Circle and it has a few extra, personalized (her name is in the slot dscription) slots in the shader and these are the ones that don't seem to want to copy over. I tried saving as a material preset and applying that way and that doesn't even work.

  • I swear, I need to learn scripting. There are so many little things I do routinely, like this, that could be scripted if I just knew how to do it. Thanks for the help!
