I like the concept. Has anyone tried this? What is the workflow?

There are a few other routes for good black and white. You can do it in post work, or adjust the saturation under the tone mapping section, or use a camera lens.

this product seems to allow color on specific items, not BW the entire scene? can that be done manually in DS?

Bought this and tried it out mixed with the Rave hair dye and eyes and lips, I cancelled the render early so it’s kinda pixelated, I just wanted to do a quick picture

Well one option would be to take any skin you own, push it through a photo editor and make the diffuse skin greyscale. Pretty much any photo editor can do that.

To do this entirely in DS, I don't think so. You can make the whole of the render greyscale, but I am not aware of a way to do that on just selected surfaces, but there could be a way I don't know.

Edit: One option is two passes, one render in black and white and the other in color, and then merge them using a layered photo editor

thanks.. i have an option on my camera where it will only shoot color on a chosen color, the rest being BW ..it is really cool, so when I saw this it seemed pretty interesting. I might pick it up. But yes, on the textures..convert in photo editor to bw and apply. that would surely work.

I think if you just replace the "base color" map with the "bump map" of an item that you want to make black and white, that would probably do the trick (you'd also have to make sure you don't have color plugged into any of the other Surfaces channels). Like if you have color applied to the Translucency Color, SSS Reflective Tint, and/or Transmitted Color slots you'd want to change those to like a white or light gray.

This product by VYK looks awesome though - it's on my wishlist and I'm sure I'll pick it up. :)

    Bringing back the 60s, man!

Using four of the five included skin textures, the red eyes and the straight backdrop. 3Delight render, no postwork.
