Do I need morph fits and unimeshs if I own wear-them-all?

I still work with older figures like Aiko3 ode V4. Do I still need morph fits or unimesh expansions for their clothing, if I use morphs of them, or does wear-it-all cover these as well?

Wear them all only allows you to "autofit" older generation 3 & 4 items to genesis 3.  If you are using A3 or V4 themselves you will still need the morph fits for sure and possibly the unimesh depending on the item.

The PC items unimesh fits generaly came with an extra texture set as well. Certainly worth the PC price.

I think the word you're looking for there is "sometimes", not "generally."  Looking at the ones I own, I think the extra textures were more likely to be found on items released towards the end of the V4/M4 production cycle.

I honestly never understood what the unimesh was? I came in about the time of Genesis, but did buy generation 4 and some unimesh. I can't remember if I ever used it.

As I always understood it, the "unimesh" simply referred to the fact that all of the figures in a given generation shared the same base figure mesh, with MIchael 3 essentially being sculpted from the mesh created for Victoria 3, along with AIko 3, SP3, Hiro 3, the oriignal Freak, etc.  Likewise all Generation 4 characters (V4, Kids 4, M4, etc.) were created from the improved 4th generation Unimesh.  The advantage of this is that all the characters could theoretically share the same UV maps, and, during the brief existence of the Figure Mixer, could actually be mixed together.  In actual execution it didn't work out perfectly, with several of the characters having additional elements added for various reasons, but since all of the figures were essentially the same in terms of polygons/vertices, it also made it much easier for clothes made for one figure to be refit to another figure in the same generation.  It wasn't automatic like it was with Genesis, however, so while you could theoretically do it yourself, the option to buy a set of fit morphs for the additional shapes seperately was made for many of the outfits.

I think that Unimesh only came in for Generation 4 figures, it doesn't apply to Generation 3 or earlier. Vicky 3, Aiko 3 etc. were all different figures but Vicky 4 was the base generation 4 female figure, Aiko 4, Stephie 4 etc were all morphs for Vicky 4. Similarly Hiro 4, David 4 etc. were morphs for Mike 4. Clothes were made to conform to Vicky 4 or Mike 4, and Unimesh clothes had morphs to shape them for the other figures. Older versions of Daz Studio and Poser couldn't transfer morphs from figures to clothes so clothes for Vicky 4  wouldn't fit Aiko 4 etc. unless they were unimesh versions.

The unimesh fits made it easier to fit the clothing item to extreme morphs like The Girl and The Freak (which really were fairly extreme morphs given that gen4 didn't have autofit). Aiko 4 and Hiro 4 were included in the fits collection. They weren't as extreme, but could still give you nasty surprises when you tried to put M4 and V4 clothing on them.

Technically Generation 3 figures were unimesh as they were all derived from the same base mesh. However V3 and A3 were provided as different figures with custom rigging.

Generation 4 introduced the idea of named characters as morphs for the base figure. "Unimesh fits" were simply add-ons for an item to add custom morphs to support those named character morphs.
They were quite useful at the time. There was no auto-follow for morphs but there was "transfer active morphs" in DS3, and fFor Poser you needed programs like morphing clothes to transfer morphs. But even with those tools, custom morphs usually give a better fit.
