Charged 7 times for annual PC membership and now I'm broke.

My wife just called me to ask why 3 days after being paid, our bank balance was in the negative. I went to look and according to our online check register DAZ charged me $70 for a Platinum Club membership not once, but 7 times in a row on the 25th. For the record, I did not order anything on the 25th. Because DAZ debited us $490, I now cannot buy anything for our 25th wedding anniversary this coming week or take her out to dinner or buy groceries or gas. Any bills that autodeduct will incur NSF fees of $35 each, dragging my negative balance further. I thought the things I saw at PC price today was another flash sale.

I don't know what's wrong with their system and I don't much care. My wife is furious and so am I. Also, what kind of system can charge for multiple concurrent memberships to the same thing?

Put in a support ticket asap!

Also if you paid with paypal, check your account there to make sure Daz isn't registered multiple times with paypal.

I did file a ticket and I don't know why paypal would be registered more than once.

Here is a link to submit a help request (support ticket). Select "Sales" category instead of "Technical Support".

I'm sorry to hear about that screw up! I would recommned cancelling the PC+ auto renewal so this doesn't happen again in the future. Auto renewal is never a good deal anyway, because it is full price. It is better to buy when it is on sale. If you paid with Paypal, that is a source of trouble for many people. It is not sufficient to cancel your subscription with Daz, you also have to cancel it with Paypal.

Check AT Paypal, if that's how you paid, to make sure that the subscription was only listed once there , and also, make sure to immediately CANCEL it there so that it can't recur without your express permission. Sometimes, a computer glitch in transit may mean that Paypal receives the information more than once, or acts on it more than once. In that case, it should show on your monthly account statement section, at least, and may show that way in the continuing subscriptions area. Either way, cancel at Paypal at once!

Apparently it was registered multiple times and I've deleted all but one of the registrations. I still don't understand what's going on here.

    I've cancelled it.

I had enough problems with PayPal to cancel that too. Some sites demand PayPal so I don't buy from them. I'm back to paying for everything with my Debit card - no chance of overspending my account now.

I had the same thing happen to me several years ago. In fact, I'm still on those purchased PC+ memberships years later because DAZ refused to give me a refund. I was broke at the time too. So I doubt they'll do anything going from past experience. They only offered to cancel my PC+ membership but would not give me a refund. I don't know why anyone would want that given how many had been automatically purchased. But maybe you'll get better luck with your ticket.

Put in a service request and they will fix it tomorrow. It usually takes a day or so.

I'd also call my bank ASAP and advise them you are disputing the incorrect duplicate charges. They can probably reverse it out until the situation gets cleared up. My bank did that for me a few years ago when I had a similar situation.

Man.  Sorry to hear that-- esp. 25th wedding anniversary.  sad

I would diplomatically word ticket or e-mail so you expect PP credit by way of apology.

Yep.  30+ years of hard work to have money in savings/MM, etc.  It's there because spend less than earn.  Old habits die hard I guess.  A new Quadro would be nice, but is it worth it?  Not if I want to stay married!  laugh

This is one for CS, but I did take a quick look at your account.. and someone appears to have made those purchases.  If you youself didn't.. then either the store has become sentient or your account has been compromised.

Either way, I can only apologise and reassure you that CS will get it sorted out ASAP. If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out and drop me a PM to discuss further.

Cancel ALL of them at paypal. And make sure the subscription is cancelled here as well.

Only cancel the sub at Daz if you don't want to stay in the PC.

Oh that is awful I feel bad for you,it is Paypal automatic renewal it is a nightmare. This happened to me this year I cancelled my PC sub ( I was waiting for a offer) but paypal put it though anyway just once Thank goodness.I was also charged full price £60 for Norton when they were doing an offer for £19 for non renewal customers.Anyway I have learned my lesson all autorenewals are now canceled for everything.I hope you get this sorted with the bank soon.

Yes, I can second the "cancel everything in Paypal" issue. I had that problem with a different company - the bad thing is, the company can do nothing about that...

It's stated in smaller print on the PC+ info page.

But if it is as Jack said, and these were purchases rather than renewal, then you have a different problem going on; a technical issue, or as Jack suggests, you account might havé been compromised.

In any case, I hope you'll get it sorted out with CS soon.

    1. I hope this is fixed as soon as possible.  A 25th anniversary is very special indeed.

    2. I have a question for barbult - if I buy a Platinum Club membership when it is on sale and my last one has not run out, does the new one start when the old on is finished?  I was under the impression that sale prices for PC only applied to people who didn't already have the membership.  Am I incorrect?

I'm not barbult.. but.. yea, you can purchase memberships on sale, and it will apply to the end of your current one.  Sale prices are mixed, sometimes memberships go on sale for non-members only, other times, it's across the board.

    Hope that helps!

    duane_moody,

Do you recall whether you used the 'Back' and 'Forward' arrows on your browser when you registered?  That could conceivably cause the multiple transactions.

In December 2016, February 2017, and May 2017 I had my credit and debit card information stolen and it had to be from some online business database(s). The thieves they gather such information and they sell it to other thieves who then attempt to use it. The thieves, there was more than one, that bought my CC & debit card information from the thieves that broke into online databases, attempted to pay their fees at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, buy things at WalMart in a city in Oregon, and tried to purchase merchandise online while living in California.

Also, it's just not businesses' from where your information is stolen, my personal information with lots of unique identifiers was also stolen directly from the USA OPM (United States of America Office of Personnel Management - a government office) in 2015.

So your stolen account information likely is sitting in various criminal databases to be sold. My sister's CC information gets stolen almost everytime she visits India. It is an international problem with computer security, not just an American problem.

So you need to contact PayPal and should be upset that PayPal didn't catch that themselves. In all of the thefts of my information only one failed to notify me and lucky I caught it quickly myself and had the charge reversed (a fraudulent subscription to Spotify by the University of Wisconsin student).

I did send a ticket to your attention directly. But you do need to cancel the PayPal Subscriptions that you create on your PayPal account asap. Let us know via ticket when you have done so and then we can get you refunded for the additional charges.

To be clear, I was only hypothesizing.. it doesn't appear to be compromised account in this instance after all.

    I've contacted customer support.

About a year ago (?) there was a promotion here on discounted PC memberships and I attempted to purchase one using PayPal Credit. The page hung with no explanation and I took this to mean there was a bad internet connection so I reloaded the page and tried again. After a few attempts with no confirmation or error I gave up, and there was no email sent me or account information to indicate that the transactions had completed. Moreover since there was no indication of complettion, I didn't have a reason to think this would create multiple subscription accounts with PayPal waiting for some date in the future to roll over these transactions to my regular PayPal (tied to my checking account). If this multiple debit had occurred a week later, I would have remembered and immediately understood what happened.

It's unfortunate that DAZ's storefront software which normally disables repurchasing an item (excepting gift certificates) permitted multiple concurrent purchases of the same membership; PC is recurring by default. Ideally the storefront should have processed the purchase once then ignored the other transactions (or contacted me to confirm them). Also, if there was a timestamp on the transaction older than 2 weeks the storefront could disregard the transaction altogether (in fact, if DAZ were publicly held instead of private a synchronized timestamp would have been mandated by Sarbanes-Oxley).

Hopefully this can be resolved sooner than later as I'm looking at NSF fees from auto-deducting bills (which typically require 30 days' notice to be disabled). I'll contact my credit union and explain it on this end to them.

I hope CS are able to sort out your problems quickly, they usually are.

Personally I have a credit card, with a credit limit of just a few hundred dollars, that I use for all online transactions including Daz. That way, if the card is compromised or something else goes wrong, there's a limit to the damage it can do.

You moght want to check up on what DAZbCreek1 says a few posts up - he's from DAZ3D. Seems that they can refund you as soon as you confirm that you have disabled the PayPal part... In any case, that seems to have been a lot of bad luck there, for both sides involved.

I hope Daz is sweet enough to give you a $25 credit or 25% coupon code!
