Saving a ghostlight setup as a preset?
in The Commons
Hello.
How can I save a ghostlight setup that I like as a preset. Since they're basically emissive planes/props, I have tried saving them as a scene subset, but they don't show up in the scene subset menu when I try to load them. Thoughts?
Thanks.

Since you saved the scene subset as a duf file, then just do a merge in the new project selecting the duf file you created.
They should show up, and scene subset is the correct way... is anything at all that you save as a scene subset showing up in that scene subset menu?
Scene Subset should work, but they won't be tagged as lights at top-right.
That's what I'd thought, but the save is not showing up in the Scene Subsets folder by ther title I gave it. It's odd.
I'll try again today.
On this subject, why don't wet skin shaders show when using ghost lights alone? I'd rather not add a spot because I have an interior space lit perfectly with ghosts alone, but I motice that the character's wet skin doesn't show now. Is there a parameter of the ghosts that I can address that with?
The parameter is cutout opacity. I'm still amazed that invisible mesh lights produce any light at all, because real world physics says they shouldn't do anything. Anyway, here are some posts by KindredArts. Ghost lights are fabulous for filling in dark spaces in a room and decreasing overall render time, and not so great at lighting figures, or anything you need to see a reflection on.

Thank you. I'll play with the setting. Spots are great, but it's infuriating trying to be sure that the body of the sptlight is out of view of the camera, which results in black spots.
Select the light and in the Parameters or Lighting pane turn Render Emiitter Off -that will hide the light from direct view (but not from reflections, or when viewed through a transparent surface)
Oh, for the spot? I'll try that, thank you!
