Would anyone be interested in a facial mocap animation product?

Good morning everyone!

I'm wondering if there would be any interest here for a facial mocap animation product and what you would like to see in it.

Here's a range of movement test I did recently.. speeded up (and yes, the eyebrows look twitchy in one spot.. that is because I was trying to raise the other eyebrow and was having a hard time doing it!)

I'm thinking of starting it off with g8m and g3m, then go on to the female characters.  For starters, I was thinking on including basic expressions (several types of smiles, surprise, anger, disgust, etc) ambient moves (like when looking at someone during a one-sided conversation) and some common one liners with audio included for reference (like yes, no, yup, what the...) and provided both in .duf and aniblock format, with and without head movement.

The facial mocap is captured by a high-end mocap rig that can capture all the nuances in the facial performance.  I know this would be somewhat of a niche product, so I would like to get some thoughts before going into the work involved..

What type of facial expressions would you like to see in such a product? should I include some body mocap as well for some of them?  Suggestions please

Thanks!

A question bourne of ignorance; Does the MoCap generate new morphs or does it try to superimpose the actual captured face movement on to the existing face rig?

  • Hi IsaacNewton..

It only uses the existing morphs and bones, and generates keyframes for them, itdoesn't add anything to the character itself..

Moved to the Commons as it is not a Product Suggestion.

Is this something you are developing with a view to placing in the Daz store?

  • Hi Richard

Yes, that is my intent.. suggestions?

If you want decent sales here, you'll need to start with G8F and G3F.

The big problem I'd see with a product lke this is facial animation usually involves dialog, so you'd need a LOT of presets and a way so smoothly integrate them with an existing lipsynch system to make it practical to sell as morph packages.
