When did Gen 8 come out? Will there be a Gen 9?
Just been wondering how often they come out.

G9 should be out in summer 2019, if DAZ follows the same pattern as with the previous Genesis-generations. But that is pure speculation, no one knows what DAZ has in mind or scheduled, except for them.
G8 came out last year in summer.
So time to stop buying and start saving for the new figure, LOL
I'll be looking forward to it, not that I'm in any hurry. I've liked a lot of Gen 8 and I'm already saving because I mainly only buy items that can be rendered in 3DL, if it's IRay only I tend to skip it.
My laptop just isn't good with IRay, it takes way to long to render, 3DL is a lot faster and honestly I'm happy with 3DL renders.
I am curious to see what G9 will bring to the table and hopefully by then we might have a nice leap in PC tech for my next PC build.
As long as Daz3D is a business entity, yeah Genesis 15 is a definite eventual possibility. And as pointed out, we now seem to be on a solid 'every other year' tempo.
exactly what I am waiting for as well
I'm just hoping that I'll be able to afford the current PC tech!
Figures, I finally get a decent setup and now people talking about new tech. Oh the struggle in tech is real! LOL!

9 in 2019 would sound good.
I imagine dForce figures which would be able to detect the surfaces instead of passing through.
Another thing would be nice, 1 pose for all figures, I mean an auto adjustment of a pose when the scale and the body morphs are not the ones of Basic Male.
I've already skipped most of G8. Unless G9 has something really revolutionary going on, I don't see any reason to go and invest in G9.
The good thing is that you usually get more and more for the same money as time goes by. I once paid $600 for 16 MB RAM, today you can get 128 GB (8000 times as much) and many times faster RAM for the same amount. ;)
G7 came out in 2015, so I would hope it will be at least two years before we see G/V9!
Or they will skip 9 and release X in 2020
Hoping Genesis9 will have working IKs...
...well about a year ago that was true, last I looked at 128 GB DDR4 kits they were around 1,300$ - 1,600$ (did see a DDR3 kit for 699$ though)
to answer the OP's question:
I hope so.
I suppose there will be unless they follow the example of Windows and go from 8 to 10, I never did find out why there wasn't a Windows 9.
I'm in no hurry for the next generation of Genesis. I have bought quite a lot of Genesis 8 stuff but I still have a better selection of things for the older versions, I certainly don't want to start buying stuff for another new version yet.
I kind of wonder if Genesis 9 might be out this year..... yes each generation has had a 2 year run but there is no reason to think this will always be the case
Oh, definitely there will be Genesis 9. It should be out in the Northern Hemisphere's summer of 2019.
I demand soft body physics for G9! Skin shaders and morphs already produce results that can be realistic enough. Fiber hair would be nice as well.
I wish daZ would just fix their bugs. They are getting so pesky that its taking longer for me to get anything done. That and better optimization.
At the rate that I upgrade my computer, I cant justify a genesis 9.
There will always be another version of Genesis ,DAZ Studio ,Tech ,PC's etc etc
As I understand it, there was some popular software so badly designed that windows 9 would be identified as windows 95; given that the observation was made very early in development I'm assuming it was a Microsoft product . . .
I think soft body physics and fibre hair would have to be updates to Daz Studio rather than Genesis. They are more likely to be Studio 5, Studio 4.x where x is greater than 10, or another two plugins.
I think soft body physics might be close - and it would have to be both the program as well as the figure (the figure would have to be weight mapped to be firmer in "bonier" areas and softer in more fleshy areas). And I think with dForce it's entirely possible and I wouldn't put it past them to have the tech coming out with G9 - at least I REALLY hope so! Heck, I've even, personally, had a little bit of luck with this already:
Sounds appropriate enough, Diva. Indeed when dForce came out the first thing they said was that they hoped to expand it further than clothes. Either way, more calculations are coming.
All the main app's have had dynamic hair for over a decade now. It's a bit complicated n requires powerful PC's n animation. It never took off in Poser.Nether did soft bodys.Soft bodys need dynamic cloths n animation.
So to use dynamics n softbodys you need to animate dynamic Hair ,dynamic Cloths n softbodies even to get to a pose for a still .jpg .99.9% of DAZ is still .jpgs.
LOL, MS programmers are so bad with regex.
I could imagine that the next Generation of Genesis will be released with a new DAZ Studio 5.0
I'm not sure I ever want to see 5.0 come out. ;)
It'll break soooo much shtuff.
That is more a function of the host software than the figure rig itself.
Genesis 1,2,3,8 all have functioning IK with proper foot and hand
contact solving when I import them to Iclone Pro.
Iclone costs real money of course, so such features are expected.
There will be a natural limit to what one can reasonably
expect from a freeware app like Daz studio.
Thus IMHO animators seeking to exceed those limitations should seriously consider investing is other programs such as Iclone or Motionbuilder just as people wishing to do serious modeling/sculpting often choose the paid Zbrush over the free hexagon.
