What counts as a new release for GC sale?

The down and dirty sale says buy any new release and get 5% off gift cards, more off for a few more purchases.  For this sale, does new release mean just today's new releases announced as part of the down and dirty banner, or does it include any new release as defined by the word "New" in the upper right of the product promo?

    Any new item worked for me except pc+ items (pc+ dforce chiffon worked though)

    2 pc+ items work for the 10% discount, though, so it's all a bit confusing.

    And just to make things more confusing it seems to work with 3 PC+ items if all the items are over $3 but not if any are under $3.

    Note that if two of the new purchases are from the X-Morphs sale, it also triggers the 10% discount from that.
