the only one I did not like and probably won't watch mulitple times was Thor Ragnorok, way to much stupid comedy and didn't care for the plot much, but it did well, so what do I know.
the new DR Smith is pure evil, and the series was nicely done.
That is high praise, I'm really excited for this now. Killmonger owned Black Panther and I would have hoped for something even half that good for Thanos.
@nicstt - Except it is NOT the final act, as the story continues.
I should clarify that I meant Part 1 of the final act. From everything I can gather online, Chris Evans contract is up after part 2 (and I think others as well) and he has said he will not be returning to the role. So most likely this generation of Marvel heroes will not be returning after Infintiy War. Maybe some cameos down that road but I do belive this will be the final act of this storyline in that regard. Every one of the films that have come before this have all lead up to Infintiy War and Marvel clearly planned this out for a long time. The next wave of Marvel movies after Infinity War I think will be entirely new storylines, new actors and even other characters that have yet to be explored on the big screen.
The reason I believe this is that very few of the villains in the MCU have been given enough proper backstory and motivations for them to be compelling. They often have been just the polar opposite of the heroes or cliche 1-dimensional type of villains. The best written villains are the ones who believe they are doing something virtuous in their own mind. No matter how reprehensible their actions, we get it because they don't see themselves as evil. This is why Killmonger was so compelling and villains like Redskull or Hela were just over the top and campy.
I have heard some strange criticisms of this movie over the last 24 hours and it is really puzzling to me. The most baffling of these was people acting like this movie didn't spend enough time developing Thor, Iron Man, Cap Am, etc. That the movie is only for diehard fans of the whole series because you won't understand everything that is happening if you haven't been watching from the very beginning. I am just completely in shock at this line of thinking.
What movie were these people expecting to see? It is Avengers part 3 and the 19th film in the MCU. Expecting an hour of character development and team building like in Guardians part 1 is ridiculous. That's like watching a season finale of a TV series and saying "I don't understand what's happening - where is the character development?"
Hela was a black spot in a set of otherwise highly believable villains. Just very generic. The sheer scale of the difference in the portrayal of her desire to rule vs Killmonger's was painful.
Expecting team films to be standalone is wishful thinking IMO. You can't develop a dozen people in two hours (okay you can, but it's hard to also have a fast-paced plot and any kind of action). They rightfully should be about the villains and their relationships with already established heroes.
Tell them: All the characters (that are paramount) have their own solo movies for that. This is an ensemble. Stop it. Watch one of their solo movies again if you need that. lol
My problem is, there are so MANY movies I can't remeber who's doing what. I'm like....wait....
1) Wasn't Black Widow supposed to be dating Banner? What happened to that story?
2) How did Buck get to Wakanda? Wasn't he last seen in a museum looking at Captain, oh no wait...Civil War, he was back, right?
3) Cap and Ironman, didn't they patch things up at the end of Civil War - didn't they join forces to beat somebody else?
4) Wait, where is Hawkeye, is he still part of the team? Didn't one of the movies end with a new Avenger Team? Where are they or that Avenger Team?
5) Whoa, where is Antman?
6) Didn't they give birth to a new badguy at the end of Dr. Strange- wasn't he all about killing wizards? What happened there?
7) Wasn't Vision ULTRA-POWERFUL? How does he keep getting herbed so much?
8) It's a planetary invasion. I understand no other super-heroes getting involved, but no regular military forces? No? meh...nit-picky stuff.
Now we're getting into anti-nerd reality here....nevermind.....
I'm having trouble figuring out what happened in-between movies. lol
I'll see it, but I guess I need to see the Guardians movies and Black Panther first.
But I want to see Tombstone first. Just heard good things about it and I never did see it, so that's first on my list. Maybe with pizza tonight...
I am a comic book kid from the late 1970's
Obviously I am stoked about this latest Movie
I simply do not do the Movie theater thing so I will
see this one in a few months at home.
Not concerned about spoilers as the "Thanos with the infinity gaunlet"
is Literally a 30 year old Story I am pretty sure who will finally kill him
We have not seen this Character yet but we have seen his People&Culture.
His name was actually spoken at the very end of guardians of the galaxy Vol 2.
If you really want to "nerdvestigate" How this will likely all come together ,carefully re-watch both Guardians movies
The Marvel writers have done what those bloody Idiots at Fox have never even considered.
They have drawn directly from the 40 years of Lore in a subtle way that non comic fans wont notice or care and will continue to watch for the relationships/action/A list actors.
But for "old school ",die har, comic book nerds like Myself.
This is an Experience Many of us did not expect to see in our lifetimes.
Some things to consider:
Thanos is an unintended mixture of two genetically engineered ancient Races "The Eternals" and the"Deviants"
Engineered By whom ??
A race of super beings that are as old as the universe itself.
If you can, go back and Look at the very subtle shock on Gamora's face in Guardians 2,
when "Ego the living planet" revealed he is a "Celestial"
she nearly stops in her tracks
She also Described the place called the "nowwhere" as the severed head of a dead celestial in Guardians 1.
That huge being show destroying all life ,on some doomed planet,
As the collector told the guardians the history of the Infinty stones
in Guardians 1.
His name is "Eson the searcher"
leader of the second host of the Celestials.
I hope to finish My fan film before the Next Avengers movie.
Such a Pity Galactus languishes under ownership of fox inc.
My Fan Film Explains the very important Role of "Galactus" in regards to controlling to population of celestials in our universe.
But have I said too much already.
Well with all of Fox coming to Disney. I'm sure Galactus will be in the future. I think "Phase 4" is going to be a lot about those characters entering the MCU :)
i've worried about hulk sine ultron movie
I think that G8F needs make up simliar to the henchvillan's make up. Even if it is part of a make up only set. Is that still considered a lie set? Or does it have a new name?
Proxima Midnight was an interesting character. that would be a cool makeup to have.
1. That was resolved at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. When Banner left Earth in a Quinjet. It was mentioned when Banner and Nat saw each other again for the first time in this movie.
2. Bucky was seen in Wakana at the end of Black Panther. I believe he was also shown there at the end of Captain America: Civil War.
3. They did not. That's how most of Captain's team ended up in the Raft. They were broken out at the end of Civil War.
4 & 5. Clint and Scott "took a deal" and were under house arrest. I believe Nat says this when Steve asks where they were. Though I could have the participants of the conversation wrong.
6. Mordu. He is a Dr. Strange centric villian and probably will not appear again until Dr. Strange 2. I doubt he would have had any interest in helping out.
7. In their first encounter, Vision is stabbed and comments that the spear was able to hit him even though he was phased. Presumably this is the case for the weapons wielded by both Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive.
8. I believe the entire events of the movie occured in less than 24 hours. With very little of it occuring on Earth except for NYC and Wakana. NYC was a very short event. And the battle in Scotland was pretty small and short. And Wakana did marshall it's military forces.
I Liked Thor Ragnorak because of the screen time the hulk was
given particualrly him relaxing in his celebrity apartment
tossing a ball against the wall.
That said, there was some really subpar CG in that movie
That whole scene with Odin on the grassy hill had such bad outdoor compositing it surpised me it was approved for a final.
And the overly powered Kate Blanchet CG double was strikingly bad and poorly hidden by excessive motion blur.
Perhaps Hulk Consumed most of the CG budget requiring them to cut corners elswhere
I am about to watch EP4 of the Netflix "Lost in space" and so far Im basicly.............. hating it.
First , I hate that Will Robinson has been reduced to a simpering, barely weaned, Momma's boy, who only made the cut by his UBER Mom commiting a federal felony and hiring a "hacker" to change his evaluataion reports.
I Prefer the precocious
Boy genius depictions in past interations of the franchise.
And forgive my Bias, as an Air force Veteran myself who served
4 years Overseas During the 1980's.
But I dont understand why The John Robinson Character is so completely de-masculated by self righteous Uber mom and her ultra competitive"Girl power brigade", for being absent to perform miltary service During a time of an Apparent global Crisis for humanity.
Or have I missed something,??
Like an Affair with a waitress etc. that is revealed in later episodes?? even if so how many Federal Felonies has he commited??
And the whole"Dr Smith" thing is too repugnant for words.
I think that's the problem, to some extent; a lot of people look at the Wakandan forces as something less than S.H.I.E.L.D. or the militaries of the major nations because of their primative mode of dress. Yet, if you've seen Black Panther, you know they likely have some of the most effective weapons on the planet.
I'm a '70s comic book "kid" too, except that in the '80s I stopped reading all those Marvel/DC comics and looked at other comics (Like "Tintin", "Spirou" and some more "adult" comics from France).
So when the Marvel/DC Wave of Movies hit the Cinemas a couple years ago it was quite... strange. None of the movies compares well for me (!) to those old comics. So in the end I had to go for a compromise: It looks a bit like a Marvel/DC Comic story, but in fact it isn't, but it is still enjoyable and often funny. That Movie Spidermen aren't "my" Spiderman and all the different Batmen aren't my Batman from the past. Still those movies are - mostly - fun to watch (except for that latest extremely terrible Fantastic 4 movie...)
It's the same with most Movies made after books I enjoyed reading. Usually the directors just have different priorities for the story or characters than I would have. Like... Tom Bombadil missing in LoTR. Or a not needed love affair between an elf and a dwarf injected into The Hobbit. Or the real story for Jurassic Park... or.. or... or...
Bingo. And if they couldn't hold back Thanos, no other military had a chance.
Not to mention, it seemed like Wakana was still mostly unknown to the world at large. Hence when Steve was directing the flight of the Quinjet, the pilot (who it was I forget) seemed less enthusastic about flying into the hologram screen.
That being said, I think the "runners" battering themselves against the force field wall was a very astute decision. It showed that the enemy forces were seen as fanatical cannon fodder. That puts the defensive forces at a significant disadvantage; fighting against an opponent that has no regard for their own safety.
I didn't really find this one satisfying; I hope the next one combines with it to form a satisfying whole.
I'm not really a fan of the Avengers series. I like the overall story concept but I've not like the execution, script etc. I thought Age of Ultron was the absolute worst of the bunch, so bad. So I was doubtful that Infintiy Wars would be much better, but it was miles better in comparison and actually enjoyed watching it - maybe 'cos I saw it in 3D so it added an extra something to the viewing. Not to say it's anywhere near my top ten all time film list - but it was enjoyable enough that I didn't feel I wasted my money. I'd say give it a shot at the cinema as it's probably more enjoyable big screen than on small screen at home. It helps to be up-to-date with all the previous Marvel films as well. And yeah, gotta wait for the end of credit scene....
I do really enjoy the CGI characters in these films better than the 'real' human characters. Enjoyed watching Rocket, and Thanos in this one.
Well, they made their name off of fairy tales. So I will question whether Disney was ever meant to be a company that tells original stories rather than a company that retells existing stories in a charming way.

I can't believe they actually ended with the Snap.
AFAICR - I think the only truly original Disney productions were shorts - Donald Duck and the Wheel, and Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land. Everything else I come up with started as fairy tales or history.
The last Star Wars was perfectly adequate for what it is, which isn't exactly a lot.
Remember when people were saying how their kids saw the Prequels as the "real" Star Wars, and the Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker stories were old dude garbage?
Now we'll have 5 years of the current trilogy being the best ever (until the next reboot).
At least "Deadpool" mostly knows that it is as a movie.
I'd totally watch this one if Deadpool teabags Thanos, though.
I still have to take the kids to see Marvel Movie 2K18 since the better half got "Black Panther" duty. Sure, maybe this will be okay, but it's like being forced to read "Pride and Prejudice" in High School... except instead of Jane Austen, it's the Disney version remake starring a bunch of Hollywood stars they want to kill off and recast for the reboot because they are getting too old.
Coco. (If you include Marvel under Disney, you also have to include Pixar.)
I thought that Dumbledore was actually killed by . . . . . Oops cannot say as I have not alerted about spoiler alert.
On a more DAZ related note here, I am desperate to finish making all the characters I need to do some Avengers Infinity War fanart. A Thanos kitbash is seriously in order. Sixus1 had made a perfect Thanos character complete with the Infinity Gauntlet (built on his Barbarian product here in the DAZ store) but it was yanked from Rendo and has yet to return. Anyone know of any other options to make a good Thanos in DAZ?
I thot that big Fire monster killed Dumbledore after he yelled, "You shall not Pass!".
It's interesting to see the different perspectives represented in this thread. Being a comic book nerd back in the day it's not surprising I'm a fan of the MCU. No not every movie -looking at you IM3, GotG2 and Avengers: AoU, but overall I think they've done a good job of taking 4 color characters to the silver screen. The MCU has flaws and the villians have been one of the biggest problems.
I've seen Infinity War twice now. First MCU movie I've seen twice in a theatre. First time was 3D Imax, second was just a regular viewing. I honestly like the second viewing much more than the first. I enjoyed the culmination of 10 years and 18 movies playing out to to the end. What really impressed me in the movie was the emotion and internal conflict that they invested in Thanos, it made him a much more complex villian than the standard Marvel bad guy. My wife who isn't a comic nerd and only goes to the movies because I do, said Thanos was the most non-villian, villian she ever seen in a comic movie. On the flip side, the Children of Thanos were just cardboard targets to beat on, with the exception of Ebony Maw he had a little bit of character to him.
Where the MCU goes from here and wether or not it can not only sustain the franchise but make it better is in the hands of the executives but they have a pretty solid platform to stand on. Unlike the DCU. I loved the Man of Steel reboot, but the rest has just been drek.
